According to Black Magic 2k and 4k acquisition soon will be no problem provided that suitable 16 or 35mm elements can be found:http://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/cintelPretty powerful stuff there, but not really plug and play considering that movies also have sound. I also hope that the grain reduction can be defeated or adjusted:The Cintel film scanner will include everything for a computer solution to film scanning and grading. You get the Cintel scanner with powerful built in Image Mill stabilization and grain reduction, a single 35mm film gate (16mm purchased separately), two film spools, a set of four cleaning rollers, DaVinci Resolve 11 software and desk mount feet included. Unlike many film products, with Blackmagic Design you can be assured there are no fees for installation, no software update fees, no ongoing license fees and no fees if you ever should want to sell your Cintel scanner or, if you want to buy a second hand one in the future there are absolutely no transfer fees!I wonder if people will get it to scan and release movies that are in the public domain...

$30,000. Buy that or eat? Decisions, decisions...
£17 grand. I'd rather eat myself and watch 1080p on my 28" CRT at 480p than starve myself. My cat also has to eat2 :P Live and eat for 2 years then it will be on ebay for $50.00.

Still, it's smaller and less expensive than what the larger units would cost while doing pretty much the same thing. I wish there was one for large-format films.

So far it obviously only is vaporware and many questions are still unanswered still it is good to see that there is some movement in this area. In the end it comes down to the people who operate these devices, I guess we'll see how that one pans out.

Yes, 65/70mm would be nice but it probably would also more than double the costs and let's face it 65/70 is so rare that it wouldn't make that much sense in the first place. I wonder if it would be possible to scan 8 perf though, probably possible via some smart algorithm.

I think that not even BlackMagic claims that one one of these has to be in every home but maybe you can ask for it as a gift ;)
