I watched the Italian BD. I think all the discs released in different countries have the same transfer, sound and subtitle options. The transfer is likely from when the DVD was released (2005), so it's about 10 years old and looks somewhat dated. Presumably made from an IP on a Spirit. Just a guess, though.
Grain level strongly fluctuates. Some daylight stuff has little and looks slightly grain reduced. Darker shots have often lots of coarse grain. Some smearing is evident at times, and floating grain. Bit rate is high to very high. No distracting sharpening. Colour and contrast look good to me. What is lacking is the refined analogue look of today's transfers from 4K scans, with properly antialiased grain and fine detail rendering. The film deserves one of these. One of the finest American films outside the art house world made in the 80s.
The Australian release is sufficient too .
It could do with an upgrade but its just nice to have it in HD at all and the Oz disc was peanuts in a sale .
