Anyone else loathe the search engine here?
Yes, but I have trouble finding things on a lot of forums, so it's not a unique problem. Moreover, I have no problem with starting new threads as long as there are not two contemporaneously competing threads.

Great deal! I already own all the seasons, and when I think of what I paid for them each at the time! LOL.

Could it be any worse than I paid for the Twlight Zone Definitive Edition? Each season was $ 96-100.

I paid less for $100 for all three series (1959, 1989 and 2002 versions) when Deep Discount had a BOGO Sale a few years ago.

Rumours on other sites seem to suggest it may be happening
Buffy in HD - possible ?? (aside from the ridiculous widescreen framing)
I know they are 16mm for 1 and 2 but Im sure they could be improved on.

Id also be very surprised to see Whedon let this one through as a widescreen presentation if it does come to Bluray

Here in the UK we always got the later seasons in widescreen.

I'd buy all of it if they could put it out in HD, i suppose the question i would have is how would they handle the effects work, if it's upscaled then how would it look, oh and my other question is whether it was all shot on film or tape.

Yeah I know I avoided the Region 2 DVDs and imported them :)

The other sites are saying that everything has been remastered from scratch but I will believe that when i see it. I expect a Firefly situation for 3-7 but 1-2 could look marginally better too.

As long as it's not a Farscape situation i'm interested, i loved Farscape but could not buy into what they did for the blu ray.

Oh I ended up buying them because I didnt have any Farscape at all. I found the blurays a reasonable if imperfect upgrade, but then I had got rid of all my DVDs ages ago.

Buffy was shot on film (16MM for seasons 1 and 2, 35MM for seasons 3-7). However it was edited on tape. I think it might be another TNG situation.

Yeah, & the first series really does look rough (not helped by the fact that we see the standards converted picture in the UK). TNG led the way, it's a big job, but Fox could do it. It's such a popular show, & it's not just Blu-ray sales, but also HD TV sales around the world.

From series 4 on, we got the show in 16:9 in the UK, & not zoomed in, but extra picture on both sides. It looks like they shot the show in widescreen (& did all the post in widescreen), but did a 4x3 centre cut-out for America. If Joss Wheedon wanted just 4x3, I don't know why he didn't shoot it all full frame, but I don't know what goes on in the studio, maybe he didn't have a choice. I know there was some hot words exchanged here about the aspect ratio a couple of years ago.

There are so many great shows that were shot on film, where all the post was done on video, that would look really great if they went back to the original negs & re-did it them in HD

EDIT. Oh, I've just seen a trailer for HD transmission on another site, so it looks like they've done it. Blu-ray next year?
