Sweet! My dealer has had mine on order for about a week now (said it would take 1-2 weeks for delivery) so I should be getting mine any day now!
Woo-hoo! :)

Carlo,
Would you keep us posted and give us a review once you get it all set up? I'm interested in this model also, and would like to know how it performs. Thanks!

Count on an extensive review once I get it in house and set up. I will first calibrate using AVIA and post my results. Later, if/when Panasonic sends me the service manual that I will order, I'll post how tweakable this set is and any results obtained from that.
I am seriously on pins and needles waiting for this set to arrive!

We got ours in the store today. Its a sweet display. Haven't had much time to play around with it, but the picture is very close to there 56" and 65" models. And not having the (anti)Glare screen makes it look even nicer. If you guys have any specific questions email me.

Wait, so you mean it doesn't have a built-in anti-glare screen? Cool! One less thing to deal with when tweaking this set.

If I remember right 2 versions available:
47WX49=no anti-glare screen
47WX51=with anti-glare screen
Panasonic claims 850 lines of hor. resolution, while Toshiba claims 1200 lines for their HD ready sets. Does anyone know if both sets resolve the same amount of lines using an equal measuring std?

Greetings
for what it's worth, the Panasonic number is TV lines per picture height.
Take 850 x 1.78 and you get 1500 lines.
Who knows if the set can get anywhere close to that ... doubtful.
Regards

One problem that arises with the alleged resolution of the Panasonic is seen when one looks at last year's 56" model (PT-56WXF95) specs at the Panasonic Canada web site.
It too claims 850 lines (per picture height) but when one looks at the "technical specs" it "boasts" of a "wide band video amplifier" of 12 Mhz. This works out roughly to 960 lines (edge to edge) which is lousy.
Perhaps the copy writer of the web site just recycles the same stuff and what appears on there has no basis in actual fact.

Do you happen to know the technical specs of the video amplifier for the Pioneer SD532? How would it compare in terms of horizontal resolution?

Cant wait to hear about this set. Very excited as an associate ordered one for 1899 total. I hope to be able to see it in the next couple weeks but impressions of this set will be greatly appreciated.
I am still curious as to what this set is going to do to the market. Is there any type of consensus as to the quality of PANNY RPTV's? ANy thoughts on where this may drive prices?
I think it's time for a break and this seems to be the tip of the iceberg.
I'm still waiting to make my move, but this is very tempting. Price and performance? Hopefully!

I too am very interested in this TV (a long story, I really feel I need real estate) but I am somewhat concerned in that two ISF calibrators have advised me that with Panasonic RPTVs, for example the PT-56WXF95, they are deemed quite disappointing with excessive signal processing (eg edge enhancement).
I have a very small window of time to upgrade (my current direct view's picture quality is outstanding but now felt too small) but in smaller TVs in Canada there is not much choice. The Toshiba 40" is close to being replaced (and apparently visually upgraded) by the 42H81 but this model will only arrive in September (the 56" Toshiba will apparently arrive before month end).
One of the main issues with the Panasonics is that the service menus have been considerably simplified on recent models and access to the "engineering menu" is, at present, a closely guarded secret.
However, I can see where the manufacturers are coming from.
On the one hand, with the "drive to the bottom" demands on pricing (the vast majority of non-videophile consumers - 90% out there - look at price first and are obtuse when it comes to quality) it is too costly to set up the televisions at the factory properly, especially since most consumers don't know or care about the difference.
On the other hand, too many people go into service menus without doing the basics (writing down *all* the settings beforehand) or alternatively adjust parameters whose effect they have no idea about. This becomes a costly affair as sets are often disabled and require service calls.
I really don't know where this is all going. It just seems that whilst the quality of the sets in certain areas (for example doublers) is improving other areas are not improving at all and service is also in another drive to the bottom.

Does anyone know when Best Buy will be getting them in? I really hope this TV turns out to be a winner, it sure has me interested.

Slightly bad news. My dealer is a small one (compared to Good Guys, etc.) so my set is still on order. He hopes to have it for me "by the end of the month" which I hope means next week (since it's the 25-29). I'll write my experience with the set shortly thereafter.

Mike,
I know the Best Buy I goto will be getting them in on July 15. The price will be $1899 for a short while then go up to $1999. I am hesitant to put my name on a list for one until some reviews come in.

I visited my local dealer to hoping that they would have a set in stock ... and they had one on display!!
My initial impressions are very good. I don't know what to look for as this will be my first RPTV so here goes.
The colours and detail were ... quite amazing. I don't know the movie they put in, but it was a DVD running through a Toshiba Progressive scan DVD player. They didn't have an HD feed yet into the set, but if the DVD is any indication I'm very impressed.
The sales guy was quite knowledgable and he is even ISF certified to boot! The geometry on the set was pretty good, and colours seemed very natural. I didn't realize that RPTVs could display blacks well this black.
There is a "GAME" mode that turned off (or at least reduced quite a bit) the line doubler.
SVM and edge enhancements are disabled when running a signal through either of the 2 component inputs. On regular cable, the set didn't look as bad as I was expecting ... a little hit and miss. The bad news is that SVM was upto its regular no good. There was the Panasonic 36HX41 beside it and the 47" was no where as bad as the 36". This is not a big issue for me, as I'm more concerned with DVD display and the set turns this off when using the component inputs.
There are 4 picture modes: 4x3, ZOOM, FULL and JUST. FULL is for anamorphic inputs and JUST stretches the sides more than the middle.
If there is anything I should specifically look for, please let me know and I'll check it out.
BTW, tomorrow morning I'm going in loaded with a few of my DVDs (not forgeting AVIA) and doing a better evaluation. If I buy the TV tomorrow (which is most likely going to happen), I can have it delivered Saturday afternoon.

Hey Massimo just wondering what dealer you were going to because I'm interested in checking this set out myself. Goodluck on the purchase I hope everything goes well.
