I know I'll sound like James Lipton, but, truthfully ...

Bob Newhart is a TV treasure.

Cant wait for it.

I'm enjoying the first season so much, but I'd been reluctant to get through it, fearing it would be the last. I'm so happy to read of the second season coming!

Since Fox is moving quickly with The Bob Newhart Show, I hope this bodes well for a possible MTM S3 by year's end.

Thank God we're waiting merely a sixth as long as between seasons 1 and 2 of MTM.

Enough is enough, Disney. No more evasions or excuses. We DEMAND the release Song of the South on Blu-ray along with the uncut version of Bedknobs and Broomsticks on Blu-ray. I will not support anything your company produces until then.

Great news about Bob Newhart season 2!!
I wonder if this increases the chance of Fox releasing more MTM property. Especially WKRP & Rhoda!!

I doubt WKRP will be out for a while. Fox might be holding back on Rhoda to put it out alongside future seasons of Mary Tyler Moore, specifically the ones without Valerie Harper.

Wow! Looking over an episode guide, it appears TBNS had a Christmas episode every year. That's pretty unusual, isn't it? It seems most shows have one, maybe two, Christmas eps.

I don't remember any of the others, but the first season one was pretty good. I look forward to the next one and the rest of the set.

Yes, it's not usual to have one every year, but it's certainly not unusual to have more than 1 or 2. The following are some shows with a lot of holiday episodes (and I may be lowballing some of these from faulty memory):

Home Improvement had 7 Xmas shows, 5 Halloweens and 5 Thanksgivings.

Frasier had 7 Xmas shows, 3 Halloweens and 2 Thanksgivings.

King of Queens has had (so far) 6 Xmas episdoes, 1 Halloween, and 5 Thanksgivings.

Everybody Loves Raymond had 6 Xmas episodes, 1 Halloween, and 8 Thanksgivings.

and The Bob Newhart show had, in addition to the 6 Xmas episodes, 2 Thanksgivings.

The progress of The Bob Newhart Show has to do with the progress of two writers, Jay Tarses and Tom Patchett. In season 1, they wrote a couple of episodes; in season 2, they came on full-time staff and wrote six or seven episodes; in season 3, they became head writers, and in seasons 4 and 5 they became showrunners (the creators, Lorenzo Music and Dave Davis, had left to do Rhoda). Tarses's dark sensibility, which would later lead him to come up with anti-sitcoms like Buffalo Bill, helped give TBNS more and more of an edge the more control he got.

This is fantastic news from Gord and David. While I know people are down on double-sided disks, we are looking at 24 full episodes (I base this belief on Season One being intact, except for a 5 second music replacement), at least 5 commentaries, and a making of featurette of this classic show, all for $29.99 list, which translates to $20-$22 on sale upon release. While like some people I thought the picture on the Season One DVD could have been better, I am grateful enough for complete episodes.

Not me. This is my favorite show out of the two by far. I enjoyed all of the characters. In the "Newhart" show I disliked the maid and her boyfriend enough to prefer the "Bob Newhart Show" hands down. I will still pick up sets of the "Newharts" if they are ever released as it would still be my favorite 80's show.
