It is great to see that this obscure, but very funny show is receiving such nice treatment. Anchor Bay is really becoming a strong company for TV releases, though they really need to start using close captions!
I heard that if sales are strong enough there might even be a Sledge Hammer! movie in the future. The concept might make an even better movie than a TV series, so fans should definitely buy lots of copies.
Hey, it worked for Police Squad. The only thing I worry about is the age of the actors. Of course, if they choose to recast most of the roles like they did in The Naked Gun, that's a non-issue.
Man, I had a DVD buying bonanza today, having purchased "Sledge Hammer!", "V", and "Knight Rider"...my wallet is killing me! Anyway, I just finished watching the "Sledge" extras, and boy, was that a treat! This is one of the nicest DVD sets I have ever seen; my thanks to Anchor Bay, Alan Spencer, and everyone involved. The packaging is unique, in that it does not have a slipcover or anything, but rather is like a hardcover book with "pages" inside, each one holding a disc. The booklet that comes with had lots of great information and nostalgia, and was the perfect complement to the 30-minute retrospective, which featured all of the actors glowing about what a great show it was and how much fun they had working on it. Ann-Marie Martin still looks absolutely amazing, too, and the others have aged pretty mildly. The set also features network promos, the electronic press kit, lots of photos, DVD-rom content, and audio commentaries, all for the bargain price of $25 or so where I bought it... All Hammerheads need to do themselves a favor and go buy this today; trust me, I know what I'm saying!
Have you listened to Spencer's commentary tracks yet? So far I watched the first two, and I was laughing my ass off the whole time! Absolutely hilarious.
It's been years since I saw Sledge Hammer! on TV (I was just a kid!). Judging from the consensus so far, I take it that if you enjoy Get Smart or Police Squad! you'll like Sledge Hammer!? Yikes, more TV on DVD I'll probably end up buying!
