Every game I've played can have spots reserved for friends only. Usually you have to invite them to get them in though.

Unreal Championship is horrid in it's lack of protecting/reserving games. The most that you can do is limit the number of players. I've had many, many occasions where someone joins my game within seconds of the game starting, and before my guest can get in. About half of the time, a person will leave after I explain. The other half gets all pissy about it.
