Bobby Slayton
Bobby Collins
Dane Cook
Kathleen Madigan
Ron White
Mitch Hedberg
Sam Kinison
Chris Rock

My choices:

Eddie Izzard (gold standard)

The rest:
Kathy Griffin
Kathleen Madigan
(though she was funnier when she was younger)
Laura Kightlinger
Wendy Liebman
(ditto on younger... has she actually written new material in the last decade?)
Stephen Lynch (funny & singer don't usually go together)
Margaret Cho (pre-rage-aholic)
Brett Butler
Ron White

And more I'm sure I'm forgetting right now

My list is not necessarily in any kind of order, and not all of these folks are still alive.

George Carlin
Bob Hope
Johnny Carson
Henny Youngman
Bud Abbott and Lou Costello - Who's on First? has yet to be topped
Eddie Murphy
Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy
Robin Williams
Weird Al Yankovic - saw a live show, and he's pretty damned funny even without the music parodies
Rita Rudner - 50 facts about guys
Paula Poundstone - especially her cat stories
Margaret Cho
Richard Pryor
Jeff Foxworthy
Bill Engvall
Ron White
(The jury is still out on Larry the Cable Guy - I don't "get" him.)
T. Bubba Bechtol - another Southern comedian, not as famous as the Blue Collar guys, but pretty damned funny.
Bob Marley - no, not the Reggae legend, this is a white guy I first saw on MadTV.
Brett Butler
Tim Allen
Wanda Sykes
Jack Benny
Chris Rock
Jon Stewart
Ellen Degeneres
Rodney Dangerfield - you can see my favorite quote in my sig
Sam Kinison
Gabriel Iglesias [sp?]
Bruce Bruce
Kevin "Bloody" Wilson - An Aussie comic/musician filthy but funny!
Chris Tucker

There is another comedian I would like to hear, but I don't know his name. I read a comment he had made when I was taking a diversity class in college a few years back. The fellow is Mexican, and the quote that had me laughing so hard was, "I was surprised to find out that Batman WASN'T Mexican. The Batmobile is too nice a car for a white guy!"

I'm surprised there's no meniton of Seinfeld????? I was a BIG fan of his ever since his HBO show (WAY before the tv show).

But as far as "still performing", my friends and I try to see Brian Regan everytime he comes to Boston. He's definitely my favorite. (I've got my ticket for Dec. 3rd - Orpheum Theatre!!!)

others (as were mentioned):
Lewis Black
Ron White
Ellen Degeneres

I don't know if he still does stand up, but I was a big fan of Jeffrey Ross. I saw his debut (in-person) on David Letterman.
AMEN!

p.s. I know a lot of people like Dane Cook, but for some reason he drive me INSANE! His jokes are funny, but I think it's his "I love myself/I'm hot shit" ego that turns me off too much.

I know what you mean, I love Dane Cook but for me it's Robin Williams. He's funny as hell sometimes but he is starting to annoy me more and more now.

Maybe it is there style that bothers you.

Another note on Dane Cook (who I really like)....prior to me seeing him on an ad for an upcoming tour, I thought he would have LOOKED less than a "punk" than he looked like.

That probably has to do with his (seemingly) anti-punk jokes. Than again maybe it's what he knows so he can let it flow.

-Eric, who should have watched the DVDs that cames with his (Cooks) CDs.

Another quick question:
What do you guys think of Richard Belzer? I bought his CD ("Another Lone Nut") a couple of days ago and want to know what others think of it.

Thanks.

I saw Dane Cook on this most recent tour and he was less annoying to me, but I was talking more about his first "Comedy Central Presents..." - it seemed like he was trying too hard to be funny. Like I said, his jokes ARE funny, so I found his 'trying too hard' to be a kill-joy. Was he the one who used to do the Ronald Regan impressions (when Regan was pres.) and act like he had alzheimers?? If so, that guy was GREAT! He'd do that joke like: "Ronald Regan is in charge of the nuclear missiles in this country. Ronald Regan is like 80 and has his finger on the 'button' - my grandfather is 80 and we don't even let him use the remote to the tv."

Richard Lewis- I saw him live this year and the set was short, but hilarious
Greg Giraldo
Marc Maron

Dane Cook is kind of annoying, but he has some good material, so I watch his stuff.

Jim Gaffigan: "I've never heard of me either."

Adam Ferrara - I've probably seen his "Comedy Central presents...." six times, but it still leaves me in stitches.

Lewis Black :emoji_thumbsup:

Bill Engvall - his "family" and everyday observational stuff was hilarious :emoji_thumbsup: ...before he went all blue collar/redneck all the time.

I had forgotten Steve Martin, Richard Belzer and Robert Schimmel.

I would also like to add Mary Ellen Hooper to the list as well. I really like her routine about surviving a car wreck. Rhonda Shear was a pretty good comedienne as well (she now mainly does work on one of the shopping networks...I forget which.)

Also, the "Reagan's 80 and he has his finger on the button" joke was done by Dennis Miller, who used the joke on the first "Comic Relief" back in '86, as well as his "Off-White Album" 2 years later.

Sincerely,

John Kilduff...

Oh, and Jimmie "J.J" Walker did some good stuff back in the 70s.
