Steven Spielberg's DUEL was such a big hit on television in 1972 that Universal padded it for theatrical release in Europe. That version, which runs about 89 minutes, is on DVD. The additional footage is interesting, but what it fleshes out in character it sacrifices in tension and suspense. The original 74-minute version was a lean mean thriller that hasn't been seen since 1973-74 repeats. I wish Universal would release the original version to home video, or perhaps give us both edits.

I seem to remember the TV version of Fast Times at Ridgemont High having several scenes that weren't in the theatrical cut.
