FWIW, I was in Wal*Mart today and spotted 6 copies of this. I didn't pick it up, but indicated to my wife that it would be a nice gift from the kids. Knowing the market of this particular Wal*Mart, it shouldn't be a problem getting a copy.

You're making the assumption that I have friends. :frowning:
I'm sure a nicely worded PM to any of the people who have said they've seen Dr. Syn in stores recently might do the trick. You don't have to be best buds or anything...

DR Syn has been at my local BJs for a couple weeks, so I finally picked it up today. Got the last one.

Too busy to watch it, so I lent it to a friend who remembers it well. Now he wants to see Swamp Fox!

Yesterday (Tuesday), I had the time to go on a DVD hunt. I visited 2 Best Buys, 2 Wal-Marts, a Circuit City, a Fries Electronics, a Super K-Mart, a Target, a Barnes and Noble, a Borders, a Costco and a Sam's Club. I saw all the new releases and bought a few, but no Dr. Syn. They don't have it in stock and can not order it. Over the weekend I asked a friend to check out the usual outlets in the Hollywood area, with the same result.
I don't doubt that a few stores may still have copies or that a distributor may have some in a warehouse yet to distribute to retailers, but Disney's position is that the supply is exhausted. Sold out. You can't buy them at Disneyland or Disneyworld or online from Disney DVD.
I bought the previous waves through the Disney website. It's easier that way. As a regular customer of Disney and a loyal member of the club, and as one who has sunk a lot of money into classic Disney releases over the years, I'm considerably annoyed that no provision was made to supply the membership. It's not only inconsiderate, it belies their self-professed good will. Not everyone can jump when they say jump. Sometimes the press of work, business and life get in the way, and loyal customers ought to have more than a few weeks to catch up with the latest releases.
If the moderators don't object, I will post a list of Disney execs with emails and phone numbers for those who want to complain. This is all office contact information for business purposes, nothing personal, so there shouldn't be a problem.

Did all of this wave have the 39,500 limitation? Or just Dr Syn? The local BB had tons of Annette, and I scored the last Donald 4, but no Dr Syns to be had.

This still amazes me. A company has every right to make their product a "limited edition" if they see fit, just as other studios have made limited editions which sell out instantly. And, as has already been mentioned, provisions were made. They're called pre-orders through Amazon, Best Buy, DDD, DVD Planet or any other retailer out there. I sympathize you and others want this release and can not find it. However it's simply not Disney's fault they sold out quickly.
BTW, half.com has a copy for $26. Right now.

All I said is that regular members of long standing who buy faithfully over the years should have access to the releases if they are not around to buy instantly or if they overlook a pre-order.
Why? I've bought every WDT release but I don't feel like I'm owed the opportunity to buy them because of that. I knew it was limited so I didn't wait around. If I had to wait for financial considerations and missed out, I wouldn't be happy but that would be the breaks.

The Disney people I've spoken to assure me that the limited edition is gone and there are no plans to print more.
However, amazon has posted a second issue for pre-order, with a different ASIN number, but this is probably wishful thinking in response to customer demand:
Amazon.com: Walt Disney Treasures - Dr. Syn, Alias the Scarecrow: Patrick McGoohan, George Cole, Tony Britton, Michael Hordern, Geoffrey Keen, Kay Walsh, Eric Pohlmann, Patrick Wymark, Alan Dobie, Sean Scully, Eric Flynn, David Buck, Paul Beeson, Jam
If the demand is really loud and intense, Disney will re-issue Dr Syn, but it will take considerable effort from the fans.

Richards post is way out of line. If you have sour grapes due to missing a DVD release to the point you can't be civil, then maybe the little time you do spend on the internet is a little bit too much. Your response is as ridiculous as your irrational hatred of "Casino Royale"
Limited editions DVDs are released all the time and are available for years after (a local HMV still has DISNEYLAND USA on their shelves...), it just so happens that Dr. Syn really was made and delivered in limited quantities. Does it suck that you as a Disney member missed out? Yes, but I'd put money down that you'd be pulling the same piss fit if Disney held 100 titles for their movie club and you weren't a member...
As said elsewhere, a bunch of us HAVE seen on the shelf, and I'd hazzard a guess most of us would of picked you up a copy. It's just easier to complain I guess.

Richard--W, from your mention of Hollywood, it sounds like you might be in the L.A. basin, or maybe you have a friend in the L.A. basin.

Here was my experience on Sunday (three days ago): the Suncoast in the Westminster Mall told me they still have a copy. I was prepared to drive there (about a 15-mile drive, for me), but instead I got lucky and found the last copy at a nearby Costco (in Tustin).

I would suggest either calling the Westminster Suncoast, to see if they still have their copy, or possibly other Suncoast locations. I rarely if ever buy anything at Suncoast, but if they are the only retailer who still has a copy, then maybe it would be worthwhile.

Wrong.
Jason_V changed the tone of this thread, not me.
Look, a lot of people have been shut out of buying the DVD. Disappointment is widespread. Is that alright with you and Jason_V? What gives you guys the right to tell everybody they can't express their frustration? If you don't agree, this thread isn't for you. Let those of us think differently post here without being told off or otherwise corrected. Jason_V's posts were not civil, but my response is civil, and appropriate, and in line with good manners. It was made in a calm and slightly amused voice.
If you don't agree with my opinion on Casino Royale, it's your problem.

Thank you Dave for your thoughtful and helpful post. I'm in Hollywood for half the year, but not right now, so I'm calling a relative with the other hand to send them over to Suncoast. I never go there. Not ever, because it's so hard to park and then you have a long walk. I go to Amoeba and other places a lot. I forgot Suncoast existed, I'll look outlets over here as well.

:laugh::laugh: Thanks for that, easily the funniest thing I've read all day!
