Stop crapping on the thread, Russell G. Try to be nice. Try reading the rest of the sentence.
Dave Ferris is referring to a Suncoast a 6.5 hour drive from where I am now, so that's why I have to call.

always call ahead to check ahead if a title is in stock.
That helps with most stores, but not with Best Buy. They look a title up in the computer for you, but what the computer says is not the same as what's on the shelf. They say they'll reserve it in your name, and when you rush over there, there is no record of any such transaction, and the DVD is not on the shelf or in the storeroom. Once I actually asked the clerk to go check the shelf while I hold, and he came back and admitted the DVD was not there. Later I asked again about another title, and a salesclerk said yes it was on the shelf, but when I got there an hour later, no DVD, just the run-around. Tricking customers is a policy to get you in the store at Best Buy.
With regard to Disney, it actually costs a little more to buy from them directly. The movie club is not cheap. But it does cater to those fans who tastes run toward their classic titles, it offers limited editions that are not sold commercially, and if there's a defect or damage, they replace it. I don't care about registration numbers and limited edition numbers; that's their thing, not mine. But I do want a comprehensive library of their classics. The quality of Disney's output before I was born is exceptionally high, and worth collecting. I've actually bought multiple copies of some titles -- all the early cartoon shorts, Silly Symphonies, etc.
But I've never experienced a cold cut-off from them like with Dr. Syn. Everything I wanted to buy I obtained routinely. Until now.

How many people have to say to drop them a PM and they might be nice and pick it up for you, Richard W. I, too, think you enjoy complaining more than actually doing something about it. For the last several days people here have told you that they've seen multiple copies on shelves in many disparate cities. And your tone toward Disney and other posters here is completely uncalled for, but rather typical for you, I fear.

Did all of this wave have the 39,500 limitation? Or just Dr Syn? The local BB had tons of Annette, and I scored the last Donald 4, but no Dr Syns to be had.
All three had the same 39,500 production run.

I'm not sure what benefits Disney reaps from issuing this in such limited availability. It seems like the only people profiting by it are Ebay sellers.

I don't see how Disney could prevent Ebay and amazon resellers from gobbelling it up real fast. But they should have held on to a supply for their regular members, a great many of whom feel cheated. I suspect there are plenty of copies out there among the resellers who charge outrageous prices. Disney is accustomed to this. They will not guarantee a DVD bought through a third party who isn't an accredited retailer with them. There's no guarantee it hasn't been used and resealed and they're suspicious of bootlegs. So if you buy a "new" and "sealed" DVD from an ebay or an amazon reseller and it arrives with missing inserts, or a missing disc, or a missing outer tin, or if it's scratched or damaged in some way, forget it. I understand Disney's position on this, and it's another reason I always buy from them directly. When I had a problem with a Silly Symphony disc, they told me to send it in. They checked it out and sent a replacement very promptly. The service from Disney has always been examplary. Until now.

Of, come on. I resent you turning a thread about Dr. Syn into a personal discussion about me.

That['s not fair.
My tone toward Disney has always been appreciative. If you go back through the history of this board you'll find several instances where I sing their praises. But not this time.
As for my tone toward others, TravisR, RusselG, and Jason_V snipe my posts every chance they get, because they disagree with my opinion on Casino Royale, and they imagine it gives them license to snipe. No doubt they'll be sniping again. I've learned to expect it. Usually I ignore them. Why don't you criticize them for sniping? If you review my posts in various threads you'll see that I'm very positive, that I share what I can that's of interest, and that I try to be helpful when I can.

I've made a direct response to your posts twice. The first time I wondered why you feel that you're owed a chance to buy something (and I received no answer) and the second time I replied to your post because you were rude. Jason didn't agree with your opinion and you insulted him. If pointing that out qualifies as sniping then so be it.

Your wasting your time TravisR, this is just another case of Richard--W doing another act. I think he just gets off on being hoity toity frankly. How else do explain every James Bond (the ones I've seen anyways) thread getting derailed by him and his personl fury at Casino royale being a terrible movie? Or how every suggestion on how to obtain this title is just met with more gripping? Some people are just unreasonable and intollerant on these sites.
I'd ignore it but I find him hilarious, it's like he posts from planet Mars or something, he's so far from reason. :P
Richard, are you at least attempting to get this title?

I feel like Michael Corleone. Every time I think I'm out, you guys pull me back in.
I'm sure a nicely worded PM to any of the people who have said they've seen Dr. Syn in stores recently might do the trick. You don't have to be best buds or anything... said:
Let's recap the "positive" parts of your posts, shall we?
Not everybody can afford to be a computer nerd and ride shotgun over the internet every instant of their life like you do, Jason_V. Sometimes some of us actually have to leave the house.
Psst...I have a full time job, one freelance job and another writing gig I do for fun. Not to mention the household chores I share with my boyfriend, alright?
Do you have a reading disability? Or some kind of problem processing information?
And this was positive or helpful how?

You're here to bully everybody who can't buy the DVD into silence, is that right?
Yep, that's it. I'm a plant for Disney.
In case it wasn't clear the first time around: I have seen two Dr. Syn sets at FYE this past weekend. If there is a nice HTFer who is interested, I can always check to see if they are still on the shelf. IIRC, the sticker price was $32.99, but I will have to doublecheck. Feel free to PM me if you want to. Chances are I won't get back to the mall until Friday night or Saturday.

It's back in-stock at Amazon for anyone still looking for it. This happens a lot with Amazon when something goes OOP. They sometimes get more in for a brief amount of time.

Thanks for the heads-up. I just placed my order, but will not be getting excited until it actually ships.

I always ask "it is it really one the shelf?" And 95% of the time the guy at best Buy seems happy to wander over and check since it at least makes them look like they are doing work.

Thanks for the update. I was watching Amazon, but hadn't yet checked today.
Now that I've ordered one, I'll probably see them in every store I enter.

Many thanks. Amazon also sends an email if you sign in for it to alert you if they get more in. Usually this never happens, as in the case of The Hi-Lo Country and others, but I'm pleased to buy Dr. Syn now.
Disney still lists it as unavailable:

You should see him on the Classic Horror Film Board. He started a poll for Worst James Bond Film, each option of which was Casino Royale
