The characters' dialog in a dramatic presentation should always be addressed to each other and not to the audience. TV/movie references are always addressed to the audience [WINK-WINK-WINK], as far as I can tell.

I disagree. Crighton is dealing with things he doesn't understand the only way he knows how. Obviously, you don't hang around many fannish people. They make pop culture references all the time.

Kinda of topic. But, I thought that one race that suffered from the Phage in Voyager was one of the creepiest/scariest of all Trek bad guys. If you think about what they did it is very sick. Not only stealing organs, but sometimes their faces.
