Newbie here. I have a Panasonic TH-46PZ85U. I want to connect headphones but haven't found any audio outputs that work for that. Went into menu and turned off speakers but still doesn't work. Thanks for any info you can provide.

You gave the part number for the TV, what about the headphones? Because you have both a digital output and an analog output according to the picture of the back of you TV - http://reviews.cnet.com/flat-panel-tvs/panasonic-viera-th-46pz85u/4505-6482_7-32887121.html

This one is overkill, but hey...the price is right... http://www.amazon.com/Pyle-Pro-PHA40-4-Channel-Headphone-Amplifier/dp/B003M8NVFS/ref=sr_1_5?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1360877495&sr=1-5&keywords=headphone+amplifier And you'll need this to connect the TV to the headphone amp... http://www.amazon.com/HOSA-STEREO-PHONE-9-9ft-RETURN/dp/B000068O1L/ref=sr_1_4?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1360877569&sr=1-4&keywords=1%2F4+rca

Since you suggest an amplifier, I'm assuming all the audio outputs are line level and won't power headphones. (?) Thanks. Bill M.

Regular, wired headphones - You are correct. Wireless headphones may work. My dad uses wireless IR headphones that plug into a line level output. The volume control is on one of the ear pieces.

I'm going on the assumption he already has headphones...just needs the "stuff" to make them work.
