I'd always been both amazed and perplexed at Mr. Hughes' ability to capture the lives, thoughts and feelings of the American teenager...even though he was nowhere close to being one.
He's directed some of my all time favorite films including Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Planes, Trains and Automobiles (one of the funniest, warm and heartfelt films ever made IMO) and The Breakfast Club.
I'm really saddened by his loss, farewell John, thanks for keeping me on the right track as a teen by showing me that while teens might be strange, the adults were often stranger.
