This afternoon I'll be troubleshooting my computer illiterate brother's computer. When using XP where can I find a list of the programs that automatically start running on startup, and will I be able to remove programs from that list?

Thanks

Ensure that you're logged-in as an administrator on the Workstation.

While on the Desktop, click "Start" and then "Run ...". In the resultant dialog box that appears, type "MSCONFIG" and click "OK". When the "System Configuration Utility" appears, select the "Startup" TAB. Uncheck the programs that you don't want to run on startup. If you are unsure of what the names in the list represent, you can individually "Google" them for clarification.

Good Luck!

On another note, do u guys know where the "run" command is on Vista? Or do I have to put up the command prompt? I wanted to run msconfig on a new Vista laptop so I could also get rid of start-up crap.
