Will upconverting DVD player work w/ this TV? (1 Viewer)

Help a newbie out...

Here's my (near future) TV:

It's EDTV, not HDTV. Will an upconverting DVD player 'upconvert' on this TV, or should I stick with a standard progressive scan?

Maybe I'm missing something, but if it's an EDTV then what would be the point of upconverting?

Just get a progressive DVD player and you're done.
