    The Disclaimer

Standard disclaimer: All prices are taken from the websites of each chain, or from their printed Sunday advertisements. All prices are subject to change by each chain. Prices and inventory in-store may or may not match the website price.

I, obviously, cannot include EVERY title released in a given week in the RoundUp. The titles included are those that I am interested in...as well as those which I consider will be of interest to a majority of consumers (and sometimes I’ll miss one!). I don't get paid for this, and I don't have the time to list every DVD. So, please don't complain! If there is a title not included in the RoundUp that you want to see, PLEASE just look it up yourself, and be nice enough to post and share the results with everyone!

Note that I cannot include Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club prices in the RoundUp. They set prices at individual stores based on nearby competition, so there is no way I can say here what price you'll find at YOUR local Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club location. And, Circuit City is still out of business...even in Hawaii (where they NEVER guaranteed their prices anyway).

VHS?!? At first, I thought this was a late April Fool's joke. Do any of us here actually still support VHS in our home theater systems?

I have a machine still hooked up. I actually 3 functioning VCRs in the house (2 of the Last Mitsu SVHS 2000 and a JVC SVHS)
Admittedly in this same cabinet I have 2 Bahr tweaked LD players (CLD 99 and Mitsu 704 Clone), a dual Denon cassette, a 1980 Akai turntable (that I'm hoping to finally get up the nerve to replace with a Project Debut Carbon), and my OPPO 93.

Those VHS releases are just trying to get in on the recent 'rediscovery' of the oversized VHS boxes by nostalgic horror fans. They're emulating the kind of movies that companies like Gorgon and Wizard Video put out that had over the top & totally inaccurate cover art for movies that were generally terrible.

I have a JVC SVHS-ET and a Sony VHS not hooked up, but still functional. And I have a DVHS deck that is hooked up but not functional. I'll be pulling it from the main rack to replace it with a good turntable.

VHS? Sure--why not? Who'd have thought not long ago about vinyl LPs making a comeback in the music industry--so deliciously retro! BTW--yes, I have a unit hooked up that dubs VHS to DVD/R.

What's next? Will somebody have the bright idea to start putting movies out in super-8 format? Yes, get the entire movie on 5 400 foot reels!

Yes, VHS is becoming a cult thing. Meanwhile I have to say that Sony's licensing "Sleepless in Seattle" to Twilight Time shows that they REALLY don't know what the hell they're doing, which has been apparent ever since they reissued several DVD titles a few years ago with only the pan and scan versions included when they previously had both. As part of the company that OWNS the Blu-Ray format, they should be putting out as many titles as they can to support it, and "Sleepless in Seattle" isn't exactly an obscure title either.

Yep, I still have VHS as part of my DVD-R recording unit, and I do occasionally put in a tape of something not on DVD. I actually bought a videotape off Ebay during the past year: the Oliver Reed/Elke Sommer version of Ten Little Indians (which isn't very good, but I'm an Agatha Christie completist).

I should have some reviews up this week of this week's releases, but so far none of the review materials have arrived (not even Criterion which is usually reliably early). Look for Blood and Sand, Oharu, and Love Is a Many Splendored Thing in the upcoming days.

    Thanks, Mike!

Next thing you know they will be releasing music on 8 track tape again!

Anyone know if this release of Gattaca is the same transfer as the previous release?

I still have a couple of D-VHS machines around - and a full collection of tapes...

It was a nice transition before BR/HD-DVD - and full bit-rate audio.

Although i enjoy the nostalgic sound of my LP's and turntable, I feel very little nostalgia towards VHS ;)
