Thank you, Mike!

For those interested, An American in Paris is the musical adaptation of the film which originated on Broadway, as Mike indicated in the Roundup.

However, the production was filmed in London rather than in New York. Although it is a replica production in terms of the design, direction and choreography, I think it's easier to film one of these in London due to union regulations and things. There have been more London productions filmed recently than Broadway ones by far. Liberator, which is distributing An American in Paris, also recently released Kinky Boots and 42nd Street which were both London productions. PBS has also aired The King and I which was filmed in London after the same production with the same stars opened first on Broadway.

This production of An American in Paris stars Robert Fairchild and Leanne Cope reprising their leading roles from the Broadway production, plus a supporting cast of stars from London. If you get the original Broadway cast recording CD from 2015, that has Fairchild and Cope with the supporting Broadway cast who are not on the video.

That being said, I saw this taping as a one-night event in movie theaters in September 2019. It then aired on PBS. I think it is a beautiful production and I can't wait to own it.

That's it for me next week, but it is a big one which I've been looking forward to owning for a long time. I'm very excited to see it again.

Thank you, Mike, for another fine RoundUp.

I do encourage folks who like jaunty musicals with slim plots and lots of snappy musical numbers to check out Take Me Out to the Ball Game. Though Gene Kelly and Stanley Donen didn't direct the book scenes (Busby Berkeley did that and in a very rudimentary fashion), they were in charge of staging and filming the musical numbers, and they did such a bang-up job that producer Arthur Freed let them do the whole thing on their next project On the Town. The genesis for that masterwork can be found in Take Me Out to the Ball Game. I'll have more to say about it if I get the review disc.

The premiere of Eight Legged Freaks on blu-ray is a must-have for me. A fun comedy-horror, I like to describe it as Gremlins with spiders. 🕷️

Will also pick up Spiral at some point down the line.

It's a bit of a surprise, isn't it, that there's only a DVD release of this film?
Universal does this from time to time on smaller titles. Wild Mountain Thyme and Never Rarely Sometimes Always last year were DVD-only on physical disc and you had to purchase a streaming version to get them in HD. Doing the same with Dream Horse is consistent with Universal's past release behavior. That being said, I have no idea how they choose which ones go HD and which don't.

I just picked up La Piscine from my library today, three days before it even hits stores; if I like it I'll get before the B&N sale ends. Bluray.com wasn't kind on the IQ. Too bad.

It should be mentioned that Star Trek Discovery: Season Three is also available in steelbook format (that's all I'm getting this week).

Hadn't heard about the movie Dream Horse. Reading up on this, I think I'll watch the documentary, Dark Horse instead.
