You can't shoot me! I have a very low threshold of death. My doctor says I can't have bullets enter my body at any time.

Standard disclaimer: All prices are taken from the websites of each chain, the week of the release (so as to catch any week-of-release sale prices). All prices are subject to change by each chain. Prices and inventory in-store may or may not match the website price. If a price is marked "$_N/A_" in the grid, it means that this title is not shown as available on that chain's website...but it COULD still be in-stores!
I only include the titles I feel like including. In fact, the titles are pretty much the ones I'm personally interested in, with few exceptions. I don't get paid for this, and I don't have time to devote to doing every DVD. I have a lovely wife and a four-year-old son I'd rather spend time with. Please don't complain. If there is a title not included in the Roundup that you want to see, just look it up yourself, and be nice enough to post and share the results with everyone...like I do!
Note that Circuit City does not guarantee their sale prices in Hawaii.

* BE CAREFUL! Insomnia is available in both Widescreen and Fullscreen versions...get the correct one.
* Non-OAR discs are, as usual, entirely left off the Roundup. Example: Jackie Chan's Gen-Y Cops. Thanks to BooneG for the correction (see his post below). (Added in edit Sunday night near 7PM Cent.)
* BEST BUY's got the hot deal with American Idol this week: Even though it's $3 more than Circuit City's price, it has the excluse 2nd "Bonus" Disc with: "features a day in the life of Justin, judges' profiles, and the Making of An Idol documentary".
* However, a word about Best Buy: They have just raised their prices on DVD's, mostly across-the-board (not "totally", though; I'd say as much as 15% of the titles were spared...that may be generous, though). By-and-large, you will see that a $14.99 title has gone up to $17.99 (notice this week's release of The Russians are Coming, The Russians are Coming). A $19.99 title is now $22.99. A box set like The Naked Gun has gone up $3 as well ($39.99 to $42.99). Wait...those are all $3 price differences. How does that explain that Sister Wendy: The Complete Collection, released this Tuesday, is $20 MORE than the list price for that item? Be careful, and folks who automatically went to Best Buy (which ain't "Best" anymore), start getting into the habit of shopping around a bit more!
* K-Mart has Insomnia for $19.95...and that's it for them this week.
* Target's ad shows American Idol for $14.99, Windtalkers for $15.99, Insomnia for "Low Price" (next to $15.99, so maybe that's it), Sorority Boys for $19.99, and Law & Order for $59.99...I'm suprised they are going with the box sets lately! Just shows you how lucrative this stuff is.
* In addition, Target has a couple of deals right now that have nothing to do with new releases: there is a display in some stores of DVDs "2 for $25". Titles include The Fog, which seems to ring up by itself at $12.50 (so it's not a package deal). The Carrie Special Edition was also mentioned, but this is not a Halloween promo, either...buncha different titles, I'm told, and near the registers. ALSO, they have a large number of titles at $5.99 each. Samples: Blair Witch Project, Creepshow, Pee Wee's Big Adventure, "10", My Blue Heaven, Simpatico, Singles, Billy Jack, Why Do Fools Fall In Love?, Maid To Order, Capricorn One, Punisher.
* Also, FYE has a Columbus Day sale good through end-of-business this Monday (tomorrow). Titles for $14.99 each include From Hell (2-Disc), Resident Evil, The Others, John Q., Monster's Ball, 40 Days & 40 Nights, Ocean's 11. Terrific if you can also manage to use the $3-off coupon I published at the bottom of the Roundup a couple of weeks ago...it hasn't expired yet! It's not supposed to be used for double-discounting, but maybe you'll find a trainee who won't realize what the deal it. ;)
* CompUSA has no deals on new releases, but they've hatched some crazy scheme where you can buy 12 DVD's (from a choice of 23 titles, range $16.99-$19.99) and get a "famous maker" (brand not named) DVD player for "free". That's "free"...after you get all the savings and mail-in rebates. Value of the player is supposed to be $99.99...AND the player has a deal to get a free 13th DVD via mail-in offer. So if you know anyone near a CompUSA who's interested in starting a DVD collection, let them know and they can check it out. Sounds iffy to me, but I thought I'd mention it.
* Borders: Just as a reminder, Link Removed and Link Removed are coupons for Borders to celebrate their new stores in Highland Park, IL. & La Habra, CA. They are good through 10/18...theoretically at any location in the US and Puerto Rico. Despite the headline on the coupon saying "20% off", there is a small-print disclaimer that states DVDs are limited to 15% off. Good luck, and happy hunting.
The latest markdowns according to VideoTropics web site (DVD Title/Old SRP/New SRP):

Your comment on Best Buy raising DVD prices probably explains an odd occurrence yesterday. My son was interested in purchasing "The Devil's Backbone" (great movie btw) and saw it at Best Buy earlier in the week for $22.99. I told him to wait until the weekend so he could use my customer appreciation coupon. He did and when we went to my local Best Buy it was marked $24.99. We asked them to check the computer and it showed there for $22.99 which we got it for less 10%. I'm guessing that the price hike is in process and will eventually be across the board at all stores.

Jay, thanks for the C-note!
Oh, and I grew up in Houston. With the humidity and the summer heat, it hardly resembles "Hoth"!

Thanks David. But it looks like nothing for me this week. At least my wallet will be happy. :D

David, you're correct. The only thing in Houston that closely resembles Hoth would be the big old hairy guy with one arm that walks around downtown.

Thanks for the new price info from Best Buy. This just might help revitalize some of the stuggling e-tailers.

I was born in Houston, too. Thanks, as always, for the roundup Dave, but nothing for me this week.

When I can save $2.30 - $4.30 over Circuit City and Best Buy by buying a catalog title like 'How to Murder Your Wife' by buying it online (including shipping), I think it's time for me to go back to buying most of my titles online.
Best Buy in particular is about to get a lot less of my business.
I'm not whining (Best Buy should certainly charge whatever price their bean counters and marketing people determine is the most profitable), just stating how it is.

So much for Best Buy, I was hoping they would done some great deal with Insomia and Memento together, and instead is some very odd deal for Scobby Doo at a pricey deal. Ugh!

Guess this is going to one odd week, as I not really decided to do yet. I was going to preorder the Collector Box of ET this week from Amazon, but something tells me it a bad idea ^^. Maybe go back to my current buying mood and get some more Disney movies (like Mulan and Robin Hood maybe).

No DVDs this week for me... I think I bought enough stuff last week for the entire month:
Big Trouble
A Nightmare on Elm Street Collection
Last House on the Left
Grave of the Fireflies
Beauty and the Beast

Plus I gotta pick up the next 5 Muppet titles from Time/Life this month along with a CRAPLOAD of horror titles.
I blame most of this on Dave Lambert :b :D ;)
PS: I REALLY hate how Best Buy raised their prices... although I did notice that Monty Python and the Holy Grail went down from $24.99 to $22.99. ALL of their Anime went up in price too  I buy about half of my discs there, but it looks like I am going to buying there less and less :frowning:

Only one purchase for me this week, How to Murder Your Wife. I'm not sure yet if I'll be buying it online or at CC, but it obviously won't be Best Buy. :)
It's never good when prices go up, but the truth of the matter is you really do need to shop around. I've been buying dvds long enough to remember times when almost all of my purchases were cheapest online and other times when I bought almost all of them at Best Buy. Prices and shipping rates keep going up at all of the b&ms and online places, and you just have to figure out on a case by case basis which will be cheapest. I think aside from first week specials, Best Buy hasn't been cheapest for most things for a long time. It'll be interesting to see if they have any good first week deals the rest of the year with the big titles coming up.

Thanks Dave for again pointing everyone in the right direction. I thought that you would like to know this though. Jackie Chan's Gen-Y-Cops is only in fullscreen. Universal screwed us on this one.

Dave, I'll be curious about how you spend the $100! ;)
When my boy was into baseball cards pretty serious, the Beckett's Price Guide would run a contest on what you thought the best way to spend $100 on baseball cards was at that particular time. In other words what were good values based on anticipated market increases, etc. Kind of like a stock market game.
Thanks, as always, Dave!
