I was all set to preorder and then I realize that I haven’t watched my Blu-ray versions yet, and I haven’t watched my DVD versions either. I loved these movies growing up but I’m thinking if I haven’t watched them in two decades, maybe buying a third copy isn’t the smartest move for me at this time. But I am pleased to see in the press release that the BDs are also remastered, not just the UHD.

Really wonder how the PQ will turn out on these... given all the handwringing of previous releases (first on DVD, then BD).

I'd love to get them if they do turn out excellent, but I'm not holding my breath...

Might turn out to be more of a worthy 4K digital stream purchase (at good discount) than discs (at the usual premium).

I'm not saying to buy the UHDs when you haven't watched the other releases but I will say that the movies all hold up and the first one is a stone cold classic. The first movie is the rare example of a movie from my childhood that actually holds up and doesn't just get by on nostalgia.

As I'm only really interested in the first one, I'll hold out for a single disc release. I already have it on iTunes, so if the upgrade looks good enough, I may end up just sticking with that.

Funnily enough, that’s always been my least favorite of the bunch. I saw it with a live orchestra playing the score in 2015 and I still had a great time but my feelings didn’t change. Don’t get me wrong, they’re all fantastic. I think what it is for me is that the first movie uses time travel as a narrative device to tell a comedic story about what would happen if you met your own parents as teenagers, while the other two films are actually about time travel. The first film uses sci-fi elements as a setting, while the other two films are actually sci-fi films.

Hopefully Universal will release these individually -- they never did separate releases for the Jurassic Park films. I finally gave up waiting and bought just the first film from that series in 4K on iTunes. I will do the same with Back to the Future if Universal follows that same pattern with these films.

If your BD copies came with digital copies and you redeemed them through iTunes, you should get a free 4K upgrade at some point. My HD digital copy of Jaws upgraded to 4k before the disc streeted !

Hmmm... just checked. MoviesAnywhere indicate I did it thru iTunes, but as SD digital (like a lot of old iTunes redemptions) according to the transaction history. But the detailed movie's page indicates the "purchase" as iTunes HD nonetheless -- and yeah, they show as HD on both iTunes and Vudu.

And indeed, many such old iTunes redemptions do work out like that, but not all. I have several that are just SD like Kick-Ass. And in the case of Kick-Ass, I just tried using the iTunes gifting trick (for 1st time) to upgrade to 4K (since Kick-Ass is on sale for $5), but that didn't seem to work -- maybe I did something wrong as it's my 1st attempt at such. I'm probably gonna have to contact Apple support on that.

What was wrong with the original Blu-ray release? I have the 25th Anniversary Edition from 2010, which was the last time I purchased these.

I remember the misframing on the original DVD release of Part II and III, but nothing about an error with the original Blu-rays.

I am not equipped for 4K. Is there any reason for me to double dip for the new edition? I skipped the 30th anniversary version from 2015.
