Just acquired a Samsung BDP-1600 Blu-Ray Player and have an older Sony Receiver that doesn't decode DTS ... have been trying to get a "Discrete" audio signal but to no avail, even using optical digital outputs... I do have a new Sony Receiver I haven't hooked up yet... will that be necessary to get the Discrete signal from the Blu-Ray Player??

If it's really old, doesn't have DTS, doesn't have 5.1 multi-ch inputs, then you won't be able to get discrete 5.1 surround from most DTS-HD blu-rays. You should be able to get DD from Dolby Digital/TrueHD/DD+ Blu-rays if the optical is set to "bitstream". Hook up your new receiver.
