Question. For connecting a pre HDMI vintage DVD player to a reciever. Which audio connection is supposed to be better and why; firewire a.k.a. IEEE1394 a.k.a. i.LINK, or digital optical a.k.a. toslink. The dvd player is pioneer elite DV-47Ai the receiver is the newer pioneer elite vsx-84txsi. And while were talking connectivity. As the video connection is component video from dvd to receiver, would it be better to use the analog component video connection from reveiver to TV or use the avalible HDMI from reciever to tv. The tv is sony quallia 005? Anybody have any oppinions -ideas?

Thanks in advance.

FireWire will allow you to pass multichannel PCM from DVD-Audio discs, I think, which Toslink will not. For the AC-3, dts, or two-channel PCM from standard DVDs, CDs, and so on, either one is OK.

As for video connexions, try both and see. No other way to know.
