1) Christmas Vacation
2) Christmas Story
3) Home Alone
4) Elf
5) Die Hard

A Christmas Carol ('51) would have made my list but I've seen it too many times, been a family viewing tradition as far back as I remember. I only started watching Christmas Story a few years ago when I bought the DVD because a relative never liked it, Same reason why I don't watch It's a Wonderful Life, I'm going to buy that eventually.

What's RED LIGHT? The only film I know with that title is a 1949 gangster movie starring George Raft, Virginia Mayo and Raymond Burr, synopsized on IMDB, with no mention of Santa or Christmas, like this:
Nick Cherney, in prison for embezzling from Torno Freight Co., sees a chance to get back at Johnny Torno through his young priest brother Jess. He pays fellow prisoner Rocky, who gets out a week before Nick, to murder Jess...who, dying, tells revenge-minded Johnny that he'd written a clue "in the Bible." Frustrated, Johnny obsessively searches for the missing Gideon Bible from Jess's hotel room. Meanwhile, Nick himself gets out with murder still in his heart. But another factor is in play that none of them (except the murdered Jess) had planned on.

I guess there aren't any readily available DVD editions of The Shop Around the Corner or Holiday Affair?

Except maybe in some Christmas compilation-type sets?

Tough one, but I'd have to say:

Meet Me in St. Louis (1944)
White Christmas (1954)
It's a Wonderful Life (1946)
Miracle on 34th Street (1947)
Christmas in Connecticut (1945)

Love the falling snowflakes on the site. Nice seasonal touch.

"The Shop Around The Corner" was a bonus DVD in the Blu-Ray of "You've Got Mail", and if a DVD could scream, that one would. I bought the DVD when it was released in 2002. I've seen "Holiday Affair" in bargain bins all by itself, but I've never seen that DVD in a regular video retail store other than as part of the "Warner Home Video Classic Holiday DVD Collection Volume 2" box or in the later inexpensive version containing all four of the movies in that set in a $15 single-DVD-sized case (I actually saw this edition at HMV today, and have edited this post accordingly).I've also seen "It Happened On 5th Avenue", also from that collection, sold separately but only in bargain bins.

Red Light is the George Raft film noir, which, while it doesn't mention Santa or Christmas, does have a strong religious content which is what Christmas is supposed to be about. 24 hour service indeed.

I have no idea what that means  , but isn't Shop Around the Corner public domain?

George Raft gettin' religious?!

Does he at least get to shoot Raymond Burr first? ;)

After watching the very nice new Blu-Ray of "Pocketful Of Miracles" twice last night, and really enjoying Shout Factory's very nice DVD of "The Lemon Drop Kid", I felt like sharing my top five alt-Christmas choices in a spirit of Runyon-esque gutter exuberance:

BAD SANTA
CHRISTMAS EVILCOOPER'S CHRISTMAS
THE HEBREW HAMMERTHE ICE HARVEST

These would be ideal for hipster Christmas scoffers while they're waiting to see what Santa brought them.

1. Batman Returns
2. Die Hard
3. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang
4. The Lord of the Rings
5. Eyes Wide Shut

And also:

6. Scrooged

(For some reason, the holidays always put me in the mood for screaming Orcs and Howard Shore.)
