Hello all....

Construction on my basement reno is to start the week of December 4th, with HT wiring hoping to be done the week of the 18th - 22nd. I will post pictures as the work begins and add more as progress begins.

Here is a list of the gear I will be using in version three as I sold all my other gear when I sold the old house.

Receiver: Denon AVR-X4400H
Projector: Sony VPL-HW45ES
Screen: Elunevision 4K Tab Tension
TV: Sony Bravia (some 4K model, haven't decided)
Speakers: Monitor Audio Silver 300 L/R
Silver C350 Centre
CT265FX (2 pairs)
IWS-10 - 10" in wall sub & amp

This is a single level theatre with no back row. It just didn't work in this layout. Theatre is about 18'x15'. I will be building another custom rack knocked out somewhere in a wall, but that will be decided once final framing is done.

Thanks to Jeff from Sound Investment Home Theatre (a good friend of mine) who's been helping with this version.

Cheers!
Andrew

Construction has commenced. Subfloor and framing started this past Monday and so far great progress.

Pic 1 - Looking into the theatre space. There will be double pocket doors into the theatre.
Pic 2 - Where the main viewing space will be
Pic 3 - From the back of the theatre looking to the right side
Pic 4 - Looking to the left side - utilities room on the other side
Pic 5 - From the front of the theatre looking to the far side of the basement

All framing should be done by the end of next week and cabling should be done on the 18-19th of December.

Cheers!

Well... after some trouble with a bad piece of MDF, the gear rack is fishinshed and ready for final painting.
Wiring begins on Monday!

Wiring is all finished! 7.1 system with in-ceiling surrounds and in-wall subwoofer. Went with the in-walls/ceilings to get high bride approval, which as we all know is very important. Lots of Cat6 and coax plus additional speaker wire for in ceiling stereo speakers setup with Sonos Connect amps to deliver basement wide music. Hemmed and hawed about adding conduit, but in the end, the way the theatre ceiling is designed, I could fish cable as opposed to having to put it in a tube.

Electrical is up next followed by HVAC and plumbing!

Project should hopefully be done by the end of January.

Cheers!

Room is looking great!
The Sony projector should look really good at 120,000:1 contrast. I'm jealous.
For the TV, I currently have the Sony 65X930D but will probably upgrade to the A1 because the slim back light doesn't thrill me. If the A1 is more than you want to spend, I would check out the 900E with full backlight array.

Looking forward to more pictures as the project progresses.

Thanks!

Yeah, my buddy who is helping me design the project loves the projector, he's got one in his house too! The TV will literally be a last minute decision as I'm at least two months away from the final install of all the gear. I have a really busy January and February for work (Olympic years are the worst in my field) and won't order the TV until I have some time :)

All the electrical work should be done this week or at least mapped out with my electrician before the Christmas break. Fingers crossed.

Cheers!

UPDATE:

Hey all, now that the Christmas break is over, got a lot more done in the theatre space. All the bulkheads are done, electrical is done and passed and insulation went in today. As you can see from the pics, the space is becoming more defined and the AV rack has to go into place with the remaining safe and sound before drywall. Really happy with how it's looking - can't wait for it to be done. Still on track for basement completion by the first week of February - but it could be till the end of March before any gear goes in the space due to work commitments (damn Olympics!)

Cheers!

Really happy with how the space has come together. You can draw, plan and imagine all you want, but until you see it, you can never be 100%.

It’s going to be a great space for movies, games friends and family.

Drywall is all finished... last bits of trim to be done and then it's prime and paint time! About two weeks and it should all be done... minus the whole 'theatre' part as work is too busy to get it all put in. I'm hoping all the components will be in and setup by the end of March. Fingers crossed!!

Painting is all done! Electrical is almost done. Flooring will be going down on Monday. Still no timetable on actual gear install ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ (stoopid work)

Really happy with the blue and white. It’ll match with the carpet really nicely.

Well, flooring is in and I’m really happy how it all turned out. Next update won’t be till the actual gear goes in which will be around the 20th of March. Three long work road trips tend to hamper any play time.
Thanks for all the comments. Can’t wait for it to finally get done!!

Hey everyone.
Well, it's finished! Took over 12 hours to install yesterday, but she's in and it's time to start playing and tweaking.
Lots to do still, but I'm loving it!
Thanks for the all the comments and suggestions, it's much appreciated.
Cheers!
Andrew

Theatre space is great... really loving it. I finally had some time to finish up some bits and pieces that were still on my list.
- Painted the white ceiling where the projector housing is to match the blue in the theatre room. Made a big difference with reflections and picture quality. Also painting out the white AV rack trim to match the blue. I didn't think it would bother me as much as it did, but I don't notice it at all now.

- Finally got around to getting all my media in one area. Put together some IKEA Billy bookcases and consolidated everything in one area. Lots of expansion space, and I was able to put my son's games on the bottom shelves for him to keep in order.

Yes, those are the Star Wars original trilogy LD's and Special Edition box sets... they are the only LD's I have left. My Denon LA-3500 has a broken tray and I'm not sure where to get it fixed.

All that's left are the LOTR movie posters to put up and my bride's So, I Married An Axe Murderer one.

If anyone has any experience buying a simple name marquee, suggestions would be great. It has to be less than 8" high.

Cheers!
Andrew

For “Marquee” signs, my wife designed a logo and had it printed on metal for the door and light-up plastic inside. If these are of the style you like, I can get the vendor info for you.

If you want a pro-designed logo, I can put you in contact with my wife. :)
