I'm never quite sure whether to trust them or not; while I love the fact that they show Altman movies letterboxed which nobody else shows at all, I've seen highly flawed transfers from that network from more recent films. I compared "Miller's Crossing" broadcast to the DVD version, and the framing was wrong, the colors were muted, and the picture was too close.

wanted to have this anyway due to the theory by some that this was meant to be academy ratio from the beginning.

and after i watch the tcm wide version i'll find it interesting to see what the 1.33.1 version looks like.

Hello - I am unable to locate this title on DVD. Does anyone know the status of it being reissued on DVD?
Was the original DVD only in pan and scan?

Laser's Edge has a copy of this on their site for $15.94.

It is the Pan and Scan version though as Universal hasn't released a WS version of the movie yet as far as I know.

"The Sting" is available in a WS edition in R2. I've owned this WS edition for some time.

I think the current version of the sting is open matte.
not that it matters. there is another long thread were this is talked about.



some think the movie may have been filmed with that ratio intended to appear as a movie from that time period or something to that effect.

the current dvd is oop too i think.

TCM just recently aired The Sting in widescreen. So an OAR transfer does exist.
