The Golden Palace is the oft-forgotten spin-off of The Golden Girls. The series aired from September 18, 1992, to May 7, 1993, producing a single season and 24 episodes. The spin-off moved from NBC, where the original had ran for seven seasons, over to CBS, where it moved from its familiar Saturday night time slot to Friday evenings at 8:00pm, leading off a comedy night that included Major Dad, Designing Women, and Bob.
The Golden Palace starred the majority of the cast from the original series, with the notable exception of Bea Arthur as the sarcastic divorcee Dorothy Zbornak, who married Lucas Hollingsworth (Leslie Nielsen) at the close of the previous show. The other three women from the previous ensemble return: Betty White as the naive Rose Nylund, Rue McClanahan as the man-crazy Blanche Devereuax, and Estelle Getty as the sharp-tongued Sophia Petrillo. The premise explains that the remaining trio has sold their home and purchased a hotel called the Golden Palace, also located in Miami, Florida. Also joining the three carry-over ladies are Don Cheadle as Roland Wilson, the hotel's manager, and Cheech Marin as Chuy Castillos, the Mexican chef.
Hulu added The Golden Palace to their streaming service on January 10, 2022, so this led me to wonder: Could there be a physical media release for this series in the future? Has anyone possibly heard anything?
