That's great, but of no use to the vast majority of this forum's audience who are located in North America. :frowning:

I wish the Blu-Ray Group had been more sensible and done away with region coding on this format altogether.

So region coding already exists for Blu-Ray? I guess that's good in a way - at least we know where we stand going in. What scares me about HD-DVD is if they decide to dump region coding on us months/years down the road. Who knows what effect that would have on an existing collection, especially if you're buying cross-region.

So we (in the UK and/or Europe) just have to wait until a way to crack Blu-Ray players has been discovered and away we go...

I think, there are 3 regions for Blu-ray....

Blu-ray is divided into the following regions:

Region A: North America, Asia(except China)
Region B: Europe
Region C: China

Region coding is still being discussed in the DVD forum for HD DVDs. I'm not sure if the current players could be updated to enforce region coding or not.

It would appear this will not happen according to Toshiba, although the comments are related to specifically the first-generation European models HD-E1 and HD-XE1 and may not apply to all products. See this thread, post #15.
