hi Marty, I didn't find it to be terrible at all. I will admit that I'm not as picky as some, but I thought the picture quality was pretty good. I guess since I was expecting a "terrible" picture I was pleasantly surprised. The sound is a little "tinny" at times but I expected that going in. I have heard that no version of this film is perfect, so I'm glad I picked this up.

The reason the R2 Japanese release sounds so bad is because its only encoded at a rate of 320kbps,same rate Dolby Digital use in theatres.

Sounds great Matt. Now here's my next question, will cdjapan.co.jp ship to Canada? If so (not to stray too far of topic) does anyone also happen to own the BLADE dts disc as well? Is it worth it for someone who already owns the R1 version? I'm hoping to order both of these titles if Canada shipping gets the green light.

cdjapan will ship to canada but I don't know anything about the Blade dts disc.

which goes the opposite way and says its inferior to the R1 DD in the bass department. I haven't heard the Jap DVD myself,but have the DTS laserdisc, and the R1 DVD disc sounds pathetic in comparison to that.
