Ok, so maybe crap was a bit strong. I haven't bought an HD-DVD in close to 3 months other then V for Vendetta yet I am buying Blu-rays at nearly one per week. They have the contant that I want where HD-DVD does not and that doesn't look like it's going to change much over the next several months.

I must be alone, I'm just not seeing much variety here. Most are fairly recent, nothing earlier than the 80's.

This is just like the initial standard DVD releases...a lot of newer films of mixed genres. I'm sure some higher profile titles will be out in the fall/holiday season.

I'm really anxious for some Hitchcock HD-DVD releases...

The "What Dreams May Come" DVD was totally destroyed by extreme EE. I loved the story, just never could stand to watch it on anything bigger than a 40" display.....

Considering the color and amazing special effects, along with a very emotionally involving story, I can hardly wait for this one!!!!!

Predictable responses.

The BD chorus can't find anything they like among "crap" titles.

The HD-DVD chorus see's a very diverse list with some good titles.

As for me........

I will personally be picking up BSG S1, The Cat People, Legend & Elizabeth. I am still undecided on "Heroes S1."

I defiantly want Battlestar Galactica. I haven't seen any of Heros so that might be a blind buy based on the good reaction its getting. There are a few others there that I might pick up later.

Strangely enough I bought a blu-ray player last night at Best Buy. ($250 on the open box table) So I went over to the movies to see what I wanted. I could only find 2 movies that I was willing to spend $24 or more on. Many of the films I already had on HD DVD.

I'm considering that upcoming Panasonic player- but going thru the release schedules and list of previously released titles, I'm hard pressed to find even a dozen titles I honestly really want that are exclusive to Bd right now.
And it sure didn't help that Fox and MGM are sitting it out (again). There would be a lot more, but like you said, they are available on both formats and I already have them on HD DVD.

Great deal on that open box. I'm assuming its the Samsung. I'm not real high on that brand, but for that price I probably would have bit too.

Yeah the price tag on the actual unit was $499. I had been asking the sales person about it. I asked if it had a remote. He said he didn't know but he would check. I told him don't bother I'm not planning on buying one right now anyway. I walked away and went to look at the movies. He found me about 2 min later and said "sir did you know that everything on that table is half off the listed price?"

As soon as he found the remote for it I said great I'll take it.

I've seen a few minor glitches in Casino Royale, nothing any big deal but it freezes for a second in two places. I was hoping the firmware upgrade would fix it but it didn't. It did however make it load faster.

Paul, this is EXACTLY where I'm at too. :) Actually, since I own so many movies that are on both formats but have the HD DVD version, there really aren't many BD titles I want yet. There are some though like the Pirates films, Casino Royale, and Deja Vu that I really, really want.

It is hard to justify spending the $599 for the new Panny player although it does come with both Pirates BDs. Hmmm....

Can't wait for Hitchcock on HD DVD and since we just got a new dvd for To Catch A Thief, surely this will get announced for HD DVD & Blu-ray?

Here's the dilemna for the single formatters: If you've been buying HD DVDs this long, there seems to only be a handful of BDs that are must haves. Realizing that is rather subjective. I think more big guns from BD need to get announced and actually released for many of us fence sitters. :)

Like you, I was not a Samsung lover. I got my Sammy from a friend (trading out an older Pioneer Elite Receiver). If it were not for this, I would have missed out on a pretty fine piece of hardware. My impressions of Samsung have not changed, but the BD player is top notch considering it was the first (and only) BD player available for quite a while. At the current price I doubt you would be disappointed with the Sammy.

As can be seen from my sig, my HD collections favors HD DVD by a wide margin, and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future. I will always buy the HD version if available in both formats, and with the pulling of so many Fox, MGM and the postponement of many Disney titles, there are just are not many BD releases on the horizon that I have on preorder.

I'm very much in this same boat, and if I hadn't stumbled across a player for that price I wouldn't have bought one yet.

I really stood there looking at the blu-ray titles thinking, there isn't a whole lot here that I don't already have on HD DVD that I want. I did pick up the Pirates films last night.

The films look fanastic, but the menus are very slow. I don't mean slow loading, they are slow to navigate. Very chunky. I don't know if the Samsung just doesn't have enough horse power to really do these menu's right or what. It reminded me of trying to play a PC game on a computer that just doesn't quite have enough memory to run it. Also there are some features that is seems you can't get out of. I tried pushing the "popup menu" button and nothing. I had to fast forward through the particular feature to get back to the menu. Not sure what thats all about.

Looks like Douglous, Thomas & I have similar feelings on this but I seem to be the only one left without Blu-ray! Dangit! :D

I'm thinking if the price lowers just a bit on the new Panny...I'm the heck in. Having the Dolby True HD decoding & DTS-HD too is the deal closure for me.

There are only about 10 titles on BD that I want though. If I was just now joining in the HD world, then it's a much easier choice.

Decisions, decisions. :)

Even with those 10 titles I found in their catalog so far- the only ones I'm actually aching to see are the two Pirate movies and Casino Royale. CR alone was incentive enough for me to walk around a CompUSA that was closing, carrying a marked down Samsung for about 15 minutes...till I came to my senses and put it back.
They wanted $600 for it though- it was fairly easy to pass up- but that same day I bought the sd version of Casino and it was a very disappointing visual experience. The desire for the finest version possible of that title is still a big motivator for me.

But the summer ahead looks drought striken for great content. Even Warner looks to be taking a vacation for the most part (just like last summer). We won't be seeing a continuous flood of strong titles till fall on either format, so it wouldn't be un-wise to wait till fall for a better player/better pricing.

But if I can get some long term, in store 0% financing on the Panny I still might get it. I have alot of down time this summer, and I would love to be able to fire up the pj one warm evening and kick back for a few hours with a Pirate movie in HD.
