My mom would like to purchase a small under the counter lcd for her kitchen, one like:

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw...DCD778&x=0&y=0

1. can anyone recommend a good quality hd one with a dvd player?
2. what will hapen if it is not hd capable after the signal change in a couple of years? will it still work? can the signal be downconverted to sd if a display is not hd capable?

Thanks!

What should I look for to determine if it has the right type of tuner?

What happens to tvs that do not have these tuners when the signals change?

Thanks.

As I understand it they stop working until you add an external tuner that will accept HD signals. Obviously you wouldn't want an extra box on your kitchen counter, so this is a valid concern.

(I think I have this correct. Anyone else?)

That's right.

I've noticed an "SDTV" logo on new small TVs that include digital tuners. Most new ones seem to have them. As long as it says "digital tuner," you should be OK I think.
