I am seriously considering this TV for a bedroom home theater but have a couple questions. First off, if I am watching something in full screen, say cable television, will the image be stretched to fit the screen or will it have black bars along each side to keep it in its original aspect ratio? How great is the picture with a progressive scan DVD player? Does the DVD player need to have 3:2 pulldown? And would this TV be compatible with future formats, such as HD-DVD?

Yes it will stretch the image to fit the screen if you choose to. Dvd's look great on the tv. a dvd player with 3:2 pull down is neccessary to help get rid of the artifacts when viewing dvd's. It does have 2 wideband component inputs so you shouldn't have anything to worry about.
