I have been thinking a lot in the past 2 days about how much our forms of entertainment are going to change.
I have been looking forward to the season premiere of Friends, but now all I can think of are the establishing shots between scenes that show the New York skyline. I'm sure there are a lot of other shows that will do the same. And what do current-events shows like The West Wing do? They can't just pretend that there's still a World Trade Center, nor can they ignore the existance of New York City for the remainder of the show.
My wife Karen points out that we will not see movies with scenes like Independence Day and Armageddon featuring the destruction of landmarks any time soon. I can't imagine even watching these movies now.
Flexon eyeglasses have had an ad campaign showing the Sears Tower bending out of the way of an oncoming airplane. We'll never see that ad again.
That's not even beginning to judge the impact on movies' viewing of terrorism. How many other movies will we never be able to view the same way again? True Lies, Die Hard 2, Passenger 57, Air Force One...

According to the latest updates at Dark Horizons, what little of Hollywood there is that hasn't shut down if working feverishly to deal with these repercussions. Three of the big new series for the new season are about fictional CIA anti-terrorism units, Collateral Damage has been postponed, Spiderman has had its teaser pulled (even thinking of that teaser is hard right now) along with all the related poster artwork, and others are having similiar problems. Goodness knows what this means for 'The Sum Of All Fears'; I can't see any sensible way you could release it now.

Yes, indeed the reprocussions will be long. Like Ange's wife Karen I can not imagine watching any movie with mass destruction or terrorist activity. And even the worst terrorist activity portrayed in movies pales in comparison to the real thing.

Personally, I have no problem with seeing fictional accounts of terrorism, even after this. Terrorism in movies is portrayed as horrible and despicable, as it should be. If it was portrayed as something good, of course I wouldn't want to see it (now or before).
As for the NY skyline, I wonder about that "Spider-Man" trailer too, not to mention the whole movie. But to change it would just be wrong. It was a part of NY at the time of filming, and it should of course be part of the movie.
Speaking of "Friends", David Angell, one of the show's producers, was one of the victims in the plane crashes.

Actually I was thinking about watching Air Force One last night so I can watch Harrison Ford kick some terrorist butt.
In my opinion, the twin towers should be rebuilt, stronger than ever, as soon as possible. They will stand again as a testament of American pride and power, and as a memorial to those who died in this tragic event.
I think movies like Spider-man that feature the towers should go on as usual. We've been hit hard, and where it hurts, but the towers should remain.
I do agree though that I don't think anybody is going to want to be watching any buildings blow up in movies anytime soon.

I just keep thinking of movies and shows from the last few years that take place in New York. It's actually not the terrorism aspect that haunts me as much as the changed skyline.
I have changed my Windows wallpaper into a beautiful picture of the Trade Center from above as a reminder. I can't wait until we can start building another one.

FOX cancelled Friday's showing of the "X-Files" movie, which features the bombing of a federal building in its opening scene, and Sunday's airing of "Independence Day," in which aliens destroy numerous U.S. landmarks, including the White House. The comedies "Nine Months" and "There's Something About Mary" will air instead, Variety reports.
ABC had scheduled the 1997 movie "The Peacemaker," about nuclear weapons falling into terrorist hands, for Saturday. The Sandra Bullock romantic comedy "Hope Floats" will be shown in its place.

Amazing that these 3 movies, which I consider some of the most high-profile movies about terrorism and destruction of landmark buildings, were all supposed to be shown on network TV this week... the only one missing is "Armagedddon"...

I don't get why 'friends' is going to have the WTC removed. Be stubborn, don't let this attrocity affect every aspect of our lives. Defiance against those responsible can only help in it's own small way. It is perfectly understandable that terrorism/destruction based films should be delayed of course.

I just think it means they shutdown production for a couple of days. Much like how most businesses shutdown yesterday. Don't quote me on this, but I'm pretty sure they'll be back to shooting by next week.
But hey, look on the bright side: at least we're spared from another Ed Burns flick for a while longer.

They could probably just re-release one of his other flicks without NY in the title, they're pretty much all the same to me...
I think "Friends" and any other show that uses NY as a backdrop somehow needs to deal with this incident. It would feel weird otherwise. As for any opening shot of the skyline that includes WTC, it should stay for now, IMO.
