I disagree entirely. The shower scene is the same length but has shots replaced with different shots in the R-rated version.
You are correct and incorrect. The R-Rated version does indeed replace some of the more explicit shots with less explicit ones. Instead of a close-up on her sn*tch being rubbed, we get a more subtle long-shot instead, etc.
However, even with the alternate footage differences, the unrated version of this sequence still does run longer than the R-rated cut by app. 8-9 seconds. 9 extra seconds isn't much, but with the more explicit footage as well, the unrated sequence plays a lot more like a porn than the R-cut does, at least to me, and I suppose to the MPAA as well.
Didn't mean to derail this thread.... and now back to Ft13!

Interesting (and baffling) what two seconds here and there can do to a rating.
In the Kevin Bacon and throat slash examples, the edits removed gushing of blood. Okay. But the axe in the head? An extra second and a half of her sinking to the floor? What did that edit accomplish?
As Brian said, it's not like this is high art, but I did always admire the cutaways to the hanging light that gets knocked about by the axe. That's arguably arty.

Just like Jason, this thread comes back from the grave! Bwah-hah-hah-hah!
So, I picked up Ft13 parts 1 and 2 today at best buy for only a couple bucks each. Now that there's plenty of water under the bridge, how has the series progressed on blue ray. Has there been an awesome big ol' boxed set like they did for DVD? Did we ever finally get longer cuts of the later movies, where the MPAA started giving paramount the Stink Eye for the gore and making them dial it back?
Basiclly, with so many versions of the Ft13th movie floating about. I want to make sure I've got the Good Stuff. While I'm fan enough to buy all 8, I'd like not to have to double dip all over the place.

As a big Friday The 13th fan, I'm sadden to tell you that Paramount quit releasing F13 on Blu-ray at Part 3 and the only uncut movie is the first one. On the plus side, if you've got the disc in this review then you've got the uncut release.

Awww, that's it? Weaksauce! What, does Paramount not like money or something? Of course thinking about it, the series has never gotten any respect from the studios. The 2004 boxed set was the closest we'll get to a solid package, and even that was lacking in places.
Yeah, I picked up Uncut and Part 2 yesterday (plus Nightmare on Elm Street 1-3 and Creepshow all on sale), so I'm almost all caught up. At least it will get me through Halloween, I guess.

In terms of DVD, Paramount did release 'deluxe editions' of all 8 of their F13 movies. They're not amazing but they're better than the previous box set and they're pretty cheap now (currently Amazon has all of them for $5 to $9 each). I waited for a couple years for a Blu-ray release but gave up about a year ago when I saw the DVDs were fairly inexpensive.
