Nominate WorstStudio 2023

This is your opportunity to have your voice heard! Whereas other discussion forums have their reviewers determine the best and worst of the year, we are leaving it up to our members to cast their votes.

Please read the following carefully:

1. Nominate your two choices for the WORST PACKAGING OF 2023. This is based on the titles that had the worst covers, misrepresentation of the product, or careless packaging methods for 2023. The top 5 choices go on to the final voting round.

2. Only one 2-choice nomination per member. You can repeat titles that others have nominated. As stated above, the top 5 nominated go on to the final voting round.

3. NO DISCUSSIONS in this thread, please. To make things easy on compiling your nominations, it is kindly asked you only post your two top choices.

4. Nominations will close and this thread will be locked on January 19, 2024. At that point, your choices will be compiled and the top nominations move on to the final voting round.

Note: Blu-ray was not included in these awards. Truth be, your nominations take a lot of work to compile and it was felt that since 4k is the best format on physical media, the awards should reflect such.

I'll rephrase

1. Avatar UHD (initial release) - for employing a careless packing method in which discs were stacked directly on top of one another.

2. Hitchcock Classics Volume 3 - for employing a careless packaging method in which it was necessary to grasp both sides of a disc to remove it from the book sleeve.

Changing my votes to
Avatar (2nd Release)
and
JFK

for reasons stated by Brian below.

Indiana Jones & The Dial of Destiny - UHD steelbook (use some poster artwork!)
Superman: 4k Collection steelbooks (lots of wasted space).

JFK - 4 discs require 3 plastic cases and a cardboard slip? Seems wasteful and likely inflated the price

Avatar/Avatar The Way of Water 4-disc Collector's Editions (2nd release) - Pretty to look at, but no easy way to get the discs out.

The Exorcist (Warner Bros.) - why mess with such iconic artwork?
The Rules of the Game (Criterion) - the release itself is great, but the artwork is just bland. I personally wish that they kept the artwork from their previous Blu-ray release.

Not a 4K title, but the Babylon 5 complete series collection had an atrocious case.

Difficult to remove discs, and lack of the titular station on the artwork

Avatar/Avatar 2 2nd releases (By far the worst packaging for me: absolute nail-biter trying to get the discs out without breaking them)

I know it's not 4K, but agree with others that Babylon 5 packaging was nearly as dangerous to the discs.

Disney and Warner making sure they take #1 and #2 for worst studios by every means at their disposal.

Do reissues count? IF so, I'd probably nominate the Lawrence of Arabia 4K steelbook... but I'm guessing not. BTW, I don't recall seeing this award for 2022. IF this is a first/inaugural year for it (or last year was skipped), maybe we should make extra exception for the LoA 4K steelbook, haha...

I haven't seen (nor owned) the Avatar movies in 4K disc releases (so far just yet), but sounds like they're certainly deserving... alongside The Exorcist 4K.
