HDTV upgrade (1 Viewer)

I want to spread out the blow to my bank account so which should I buy first? An HDTV or a HDTV/mini dish receiver. Buying the receiver first will allow me to drop my cable service, but the HDTV capability of the receiver can't be used until I buy an HDTV. If I buy the TV first, I will be watching standard broadcasts until I buy the receiver.
I've noticed that most people buy the TV first and then the receiver, but I was thinking about doing it the other way around.

I bought the HDTV first because the line doubler improved 480I to 480P.
I bought a progressive scan DVD player next for excellent movie watching.
I bought the HD6000 receiver last for true 1080I HDTV.
