Grease - agree
Mrs. Doubtfire - agree (but it's not "great")
Castaway - even
Clerks - strongly agree
Dancer in the Dark - disagree, but can totally understand why someone would hate it

LukeB
A Clockwork Orange - strongly disagree
Dr. Strangelove - strongly disagree
Ran - strongly disagree
North By Northwest - strongly disagree
Manhattan - strongly disagree
Silence of the Lambs - disagree

Ok, LukeB's just a wack job. :)

I only agree with him on Easy Rider.

Jim has some quality flicks, but it's hard to top the first 7-8 for Luke.

I noticed in your sig that you just saw Swing Time. May I also recommend Shall We Dance? Those two Fred and Ginger films are the best of the bunch with the best songs and best dance numbers.

Walkabout - never seen
Amelie
- I don't like French movies either
The Thin Red Line :emoji_thumbsup:
- First one I've given all day
Forrest Gump
- It's either backlash or the fact that it's not a philosophical treatise where this movie gets its knocks
Grease even
- I liked this, and my high school put on a production of it years back.
Mrs. Doubtfire
- This was great?
The Seven Year Itch - never seen
Castaway
- Thought it was a great survival movie
Clerks even
- I love it though I can understand why others wouldn't
Dancer in the Dark - never seen and have no desire to see

Dances With Wolves -
- Just because Costner sucks doesn't mean he can't hit a big one every once in a while
A Clockwork Orange -
- I'm far from a Kubrick fanatic
Dr. Strangelove - even
- I liked it, and it was funny, but I think it's one of those situations where the ideas are a lot funnier in your head
Ran - never seen it, and plan on getting it as I've liked every single Kurosawa I've bought sight unseen
North By Northwest - even
- I've been meaning to watch this again, but last time I remember I liked it enough, but that was only after I got over my hatred for the ending.
Manhattan - never seen it
The Pianist - never seen it
Silence of the Lambs -
- One of very few horror movies I like. It's pop culture status is probably what's hurting it's credibility in film buff eyes.
Airplane! -
- I don't know where to begin
Easy Rider -
- Hippy or not, I liked this movie

Already beat you to the punch. :) Well, technically not, as I haven't seen it yet, but it is on the same tape as Swing Time and is sitting by my VCR ready to be watched sometime this weekend.

Swing Time was excellent, even better than Top Hat, I thought. Ginger was captivating to a level I'd never seen from her (and I've been a fan of hers for a while), and the story, while well-worn, was carried forth with effortless charm by all four main characters and director Stevens.

And yeah, the dancing wasn't too bad. :) (Unfortunate blackface aside, the Bojangles number was one of the greatest things I've ever seen in movies, and the looong takes really put to shame the presentation of dances like in Moulin Rouge).
