Hmmm, neither list has any films that I'm especially fond of. Guess I'll go with Brian, mainly for the inclusion of Sunset Blvd. and Repulsion.

Not too crazy about either list. The Deer Hunter and Driving Miss Daisy are the only two films I really like, and they cancel each other out. I find myself in total agreement about Annie Hall, The Searchers, and A Streetcar Named Desire. So by that account, I'll vote for Brian.

For some reason I kept thinking the draft was going to have more movies, Really would of liked to have gotten Run Lola Run & Shawshank Redemption onto my list. :)

Easy vote though. George :D

Life is Beautiful - even I liked it
Repulsion - never seen
Rudy - I don't exactly know where Brian got the idea that Rudy (the person) as portrayed as retarded in this movie
Black Hawk Down - I think he only hates it because of the Bruckheimer name attached
The Quiet Man - never seen it
Driving Miss Daisy - been too long since I've seen it
Léon: The Professional - been too long since I've seen it

Titanic  - a lot better than I thought

George

I agree with at least 6 of Brian's choices. George is in need of an intervention to help wean him off of the crack pipe.

Gentleman's Agreement - Coulda been better.
Dead Poets Society - Williams was fine; the over-bearing father plot thread was predictable and poorly done.
Sunset Blvd. - Classic
Life is Beautiful - S'ok, but strains credibility.
Rudy - Great. He's neither retarded nor magical.
Black Hawk Down - No deep meaning, just a staggering recreation of an operation gone very sour.
The Quiet Man - Near classic. Misogynistic? Mayhaps, but it's not like the men get a free pass from Ford either--the majority are boozers and brawlers worried more about cash than their sisters/wives' well-being. Yeah, these guys are paragons of virtue, all right.
Driving Miss Daisy - Didn't deserve Best Picture, but ok in its own right.
Léon: The Professional - Me no like Besson.

vs.

George Kaplan

Titanic - Good film. I'd buy a feature-laden DVD.
Do the Right Thing - Good film with some flaws.
Cries & Whispers - Another good film.
Jules & Jim - Pretty good.
All About Eve - I appreciate more than I like it.
The Deer Hunter - Ok film. The powerful dramatics of the roulette scenes undermined by historical and especially mathematical inaccuracy.
Annie Hall - Classic or near-classic. I prefer Star Wars, but at least it lost to a good movie (and a comedy George! The genre that gets no critical respect! :)).
The Searchers - Good film with problems. Wayne is superb, but some of the secondary characters seriously grate and the action scenes are very sloppy coming from a master like Ford. Still, the initial attack on the homestead is one of the scariest scenes in cinema, and the photography on the whole is phenomenal.
A Streetcar Named Desire - Has never done much for me, though the performances are all outstanding.

Tough call, but George hits upon several Hollywood classics that, while I don't hold in as high regard as most, I still like. Nevertheless, he has none I actually agree with (unlike Brian). Guess I'll go Kaplan.

From Here to Eternity - I'm also not very fond of it
Three Colors: Blue - haven't seen
The Haunting - Great Horror film. Very slow paced so I can understand the rift this film causes.
Rosemary's Baby - Good film. Not that crazy about it.
A Place in the Sun I remember nothing about it
Giant - eh so-so. Ponderous Hollywood Melodrama
The Thin Blue Line - Haven't seen it since it first came out.
Star Trek: The Motion Picture - I don't think many people call this a great film. They don't call it the Motionless Picture for nothing. :D
The Blair Witch Project - Yep, this sucked. All hype.
Shane - Classic Western. That little kid gets on my nerves though. :)

vs.

Bill J

Gone with the Wind - Haven't seen it in over 15 years or so. When I have 5 hours to kill I might give it a go again.
Taxi Driver - Great Film. Not an easy film to watch though.
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon - Great film.
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring - Great film
The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers - I'll never understand why you would've seen the second if you really hated the first.
Gladiator - kinda liked it so sue me. :p)
Full Metal Jacket - Great but flawed film
Alien - Great film
The Matrix - Great film
The Usual Suspects - Agreed. I don't hate it but it sure is an ordinary film. Nothing special IMO.

My vote goes to Bill for the much more Offensive list. :)

From Here to Eternity - Great movie.
Three Colors: Blue - Haven't seen it.
The Haunting - Great Movie.
Rosemary's Baby - In my all-time top 10.
A Place in the Sun - I absolutely love this movie.
Giant - Very good movie.
The Thin Blue Line - Brilliant movie, in my top 100.
Star Trek: The Motion Picture - This one does bite the big one.
The Blair Witch Project - I liked it.
Shane - Good movie, though Alan Ladd is disturbingly doughy.

vs.

Bill J

Gone with the Wind - Great, great movie.
Taxi Driver - Brilliant, in my top 100.
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon - I liked it a whole lot.
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring - Good but highly overrated.
The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers - waiting for DVD.
Gladiator - Good movie.
Full Metal Jacket - Good movie, great in parts.
Alien - Very good movie.
The Matrix - Great movie.
The Usual Suspects - Overrated yes, bad no.

Though Bill is clearly out of his mind, I think Dome's list is probably the most offensive in the whole bunch.

Though I think Bill took more chances by selecting a ton of popular films, I like every movie on his list (except Gladiator, which I only view for technical reasons these days). Therefore,

Bill smells more of bong water in this match-up.
