A misfit comedy like You Can’t Take It With You earns its popularity because its characters are mostly all lovable eccentrics who live life on terms that suit their needs while the world outside their orbit either accepts their quirks or quietly goes along without them. Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini’s Girl Most Likely features a similar handful of oddballs but apart from one of them, their quirks are more exasperating than endearing, and the rules for misfit farce that You Can’t Take It With You or Bringing Up Baby demonstrate so proudly seem out of kilter with what the writer, the directors, or the actors are attempting to accomplish here. The result is a comedy that sadly misfires more than it scores despite a more than able cast.
