After two months of decision maknig, I have narrowed my "monitor" choice down to two projectors.
    Sanyo PLV Z2
    and
    Panasonic PTAE500U

From what I have read, these two projectors are in direct competition, and the race is tight, very tight. So in an effort to help me decide (ignoring my personal experience) I would like to hear what you guys/gals think. Thoughts? Comparisons?

I considered both of those units, and bought the Z2 because of it's lens shift capability. Being in the military, I move frequently. The lens shift is insurance for the future, offering me more leeway in setting up the HT in my next home.

In general though, I think that if you're happy with one of these projectors, you'd be happy with the other one as well.

Have the Z2 incompatibility issues with 1080i sources been solved?

What Z2 incompatibility issues with 1080i sources? My HD-Settop box was sending 1080i to my Z2 (untill I remembered to switch it to 720p), but I didn't really have any issues.

PS. Plus, I played 1080i games from my Xbox on my Z2 without any issues also.

Many are having problems with the unit not accepting the signal from a DVHS unit and certain other 1080 sources.

Oh, well I can't speak of DVHS, as I don't own one. Other sources seem to be fine for me. I'll do some more testing this weekend with my HD Set-Top box.

Based on these statistics, I believe I have made a choice as to which projector is "better."

    Sanyo PLV Z2
    100" Screen Throw disctance - 12.9'
    800 ansi lumens
    DVI-I
    Lens Shift
    26db
    H-Sync Range: 15.0 - 80.0kHz
    V-Sync Range: 50 - 100Hz
    135watt UHM Bulb
    Pixel Clock: 100 MHz max
    Image Size (inches) : 31.0 - 200.0
    Max Power: 210W

    Panasonic AE500U
    100" Screen Throw disctance - 11.9'
    850 ansi lumens
    DVI-D
    No Lense Shift
    27db
    H-Sync Range: 30.0 - 70.0kHz
    V-Sync Range: 50 - 87Hz
    130watt UHM Bulb
    Pixel Clock: Unknown
    Image Size (inches) : 40.0 - 200.0
    Max Power: 180W

Quick question though, what is the difference between DVI-I and DVI-D? Do they restrict you to usage of different devices?
