Do certain discs pixilate on Progressive Scan Players? (1 Viewer)

I have a PANASONIC S35 progressive scan
and a non-progressive TOSHIBA SD-V291 DVD-VCR player.
I've played certain discs,like the recent LOONEY TONES
boxset collection on the PANASONIC.Disc three will either
pixilate or freeze up on one of the shorts,TORTOISE WINS
BY A HARE..I switch to my TOSHIBA,run the same disc,etc..
It runs perfectly.No pixilation or freeze-ups.
The other night I played season four of the MASH boxset,
again..I used my PANASONIC,lo and behold..the same trouble
occurs on one the episodes,IT HAPPENED ONE NIGHT.Halfway
through the episode,the pixilation occurs but then it
seems fine again.It seems to run smoothly when I run
the disc on my TOSHIBA.My question is why does this
happen more on progressive scans than non-progressive scans.This TOSHIBA that I recently purchased is one of
the very few non-PROGRESSIVE SCAN players left.All of the
other DVD players are PROGRESSIVE SCAN.I like using more
than one DVD player,but if I keep playing my DVD's on
my PANASONIC..I'm worried that I am going to eventually wear out the DVD.Should I scrap the PANASONIC altogether??

Do you know anybody else that has a Progressive Scan player? I would try the disc somewhere else.

I think the Panny player is have'n some issues.

I wish I did but,unfortunately..I'm probably the
only one,at least in my family,that has this type of
player.Is PANASONIC a bad brand for progressive scan
players??If it is than I'm out of luck since the 30
day guarantee has already expired:frowning:

This has nothing to do with progressive scan. If there's pixelization, it's

1. a faulty or dirty disc;
2. a player that's failing; or
3. an incompatibility between a particular title and a particular player (which happens more often than you might think).[/list=1]
   
   I've had Panasonic's (formerly) top-of-the-line p/s player for 4 years now, and it's a great machine. Needed some repair after the first three years, but otherwise it's been fine, and I expect to keep it for a while.

Its not related to progressive vs interlaced output. The new Panasonic models like the S35 are extremely cheaply built in China now so they have problems reading some DVDs, I say return it to the store. Get a over $100 model if you want better quality. I've found the JVC models have few read errors, but you can get picture quality if get a Faroudja-deinterlacer based model but they cost $250 or more. Models like the Mitsubishi DD-8040 or Denon DVD-910.

My first player was a Panasonic DVD A110. It wasn't progressive, and it was an older model, but I often had problems with pixelization and DVDs stopping.

My new player I just got is a Pioneer 563a. Progressive, yes. Problems so far, no.
