Hello,

Let me start off by saying that I know very little about technical specs and a lot about pottery.

I am trying to build some ceramic speakers like the ones found at http://joeyroth.com/ceramic-speakers/

Will it be possible for me to conect these speakers:

Size: 6 "/ 165 mm
Impedance: 4 ohms
Power: 140 W
Frequency: 40Hz-20kHz
Size of Magnet: 10 oz
Usable diameter: 142mm
Depth: 56 mm
2-Way Speakers

to this http://cgi.ebay.at/New-Super-Small-MP3-CD-Car-Home-Audio-Stereo-Amplifier-/150605837333?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2310ceb415#ht_5925wt_1139 amplifier:

  • With Colorful LED of Volume button Charming Red case
  • Output Power: 100W + 100W
  • Input Power: 12V (2-4)A DC
  • Input Sensitivity: 200mv
  • Input Impedance: 47K
  • Speaker Impedance: 4ohm to 16ohm
  • Frequency Reponse: 20Hz to 20KHz
  • Min. THD: 100dB
  • RCA Input for MP3
  • LED light for Volume Control
  • Twin Power IC Chips
  • Aluminum Case
  • Weight: 216g (.5lb)
  • Dimensions:SIZE : 10x7x4( CM)

How will it sound? or what will blow up first?

Thanks!

Ian

Ceramics is just from the enclosure. Heck you could build that out of fiberglass and Bondo and it would look exactly the same.

Here's a nice 4", full range driver http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=295-352 only it doesn't play quite as low as the speaker linked.

I've heard nothing good about those cheap amps. The T-amp from PE gets very good reviews. http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=300-380

It will sound as good as the parts you put into it. Full range speakers are easiest to build. Most of the time it is just an enclosure. Sometimes you may need to add a notch filter to tame a peak but if you don't have proper measuring equipment then you can't build the filter.

There is little reason to think you will blow up something. Speaker building isn't difficult.
