Best TV under $3,000 around 50" ?? (1 Viewer)

I've been running between stores and listening to salesman for months now. Each store tells you why their brands are best, but now I need to hear from someone who's not on commission. I have a budget under 3K and am simply looking for the best picture.

look at the Hitachi 50V500 50" LCD Rear Projection set. It can be had around $2800 if you watch the sales. I would, however, recomend an up-converting DVD Player (Samsung HD931, Bravo D1, Liteon LDV2100) to go with it because by nature, all LCD, DLP, and LCOS based TVs will convert ALL signals to 720p.

If you don't mind eBay you can get the 55" Philips LCOS set which I found to have a superior picture to the Samsung DLP, Hitachi and Sony XBR LCD and all CRT sets, when given a good 720p signal. It also did better than anything i've seen (other than the PIO ELITE sets) with analog video.
