It is because they are shot with HD cameras, not converted from film. All PBS and Discovery-HD programs are filmed in HD by HD cameras. Naturally, all HD sports are filmed live in HD by HD cameras (of course "filmed" should have quotes around it, they are not "filmed", but I can't think of a better word).
