Watching Ti West's X is an odd experience, as I had trouble defining what I was seeing.
Initially, it took me to this:
It's about 105 minutes longer, and a fun thriller, slasher, horror film based around a group of young folks making a low-budget porn flick in 1979 at a remote Texas farm rented from an elderly couple who live in the main house.
And it's from A24, so you know that there will be something special or off about it, and I mean that in a very positive way.
The set-up is fun, and it's aimed at those who know these film very well. You'll know when the next jump scare is coming.
In the end it seems like a political cry for federal and Texas state assistance toward mental health care for the elderly, and it may just bring about the requisite number of votes.
As a Blu-ray disc is a beautiful release, with Wellington, NZ standing in for the green Texas farm country and swamps.
Fully digital (shot on a Sony CineAlta Venice), with the audio in DTS-HD MA 5.1, which works beautifully.
But the major attribute here will be for slipcover collectors, as the artwork and embossing are beautifully done.
One must presume that from an investment perspective, only the first run will be thusly covered, with prices on eBay heading to the stratosphere by Midsommar.
Grab a copy while you can.
For those with an aversion to nudity, best to steer clear. Mia Goth and Brittany Snow nekked on the big screen could cause one to join one of them southern snake-loving churches to find religion. Not that there's anything really wrong with vipers, or churches.
Seeing them shoot their porn film, The Farmer's Daughter, brought back pleasant memories of the era, as I knew a number of the performers, as well as a dear friend who did Foley for them.

Audio – 5 (DTS-HD MA 5.1)
Pass / Fail – Pass
Works up-rezzed to 4k - Yes
Highly Recommended
