Dogman is an Italian production, being released on only DVD by Magnolia.
It's a dank, unpleasant, un-pretty little film, about a certain underbelly of society.
A sweet, caring, little nothing of a man in a small village, who lovingly cares for dogs, and gets along with the others in the community, is set up by the local bad dude - a Very bad dude - to become part of a theft.
Matteo Garrone's character study concerns the outcome, after the community turns on the dogman, and he must find a means of reclaiming his humanity and dignity among his peers.
The film is hard to take at times, but an interesting experience in this unpleasant alternate universe.
Presented, presumably as designed, in cyan-green color, it's a quality DVD. Shot with an Arri Mini, and finished in 2k for distribution, it's an award winner at the Bari Film Fest, and was nominated for a BAFTA award - Best Film Not in the English Language.
