So, I haven't been on here for awhile, but all the advice I have gotten has been very valuable. My equipment thus far,
Svs 12" sub, 4 SVS 01s, Emotiva xps3, Yamaha RX-830, Oppo BDP103, Samsung 65"8700 UHD. I have $15-1600. to upgrade my front sound stage and I'am looking at SVS Ultra...
You guys have steered me in the right direction more than once ....so here goes....I have a Sony 52" display.. what we used to call AG gain is going out on it (you notice it in very dark scenes)..I also have an oppo BDP 103 4K and 3D capable, (great $ spent) A Yamaha A-830 AVR with 4k and 3D...
Admitedly 4k isnt in the near picture given the cost, Just didnt want to be too short sighted.....I like the all in one out of my avr now, Buy the way had to replace the video imput board in my Sony 3mnts out of warranty. (The Oppo will handle it and has upconverting). That said buy Xmass I...
The 707 Is a Relay problem isn't it I can tell buy the Click or weekness of.....Is it silid state, board replace or (it sounds like) a visible isolated relay. I have been very tempted to open it up. I am a HVAC guy But have done well with compute repairs.

Soooo, What am I Missing....you had a problem with Onkyo,..fixed it ....but failed again.....and bought two more Onkyos and it looks like Integra the 3rd AVR is made buy Onkyo..or vice versa.....What virtues do find in, and I am unaware of, are in the product that initially failed you? Is Onkyo...
Ok, Wow nice stuff. Thanks for the tip......Did I mention I am middle class and ....Married . Under a grand would be nice,I have been eying a Denon -x3000, but seems like alot of over kill for me to get the features I need. 12v trigger is big, why have a universal (harmony) remote if you...
Thanks, I am not familliar with Anthem but will look them up. One thing I am comming to realize after buying the Oppo and viewing it on a 5yr old Sony display (LCD) is even though its digital (Xs -Os) how those Xs -Os are processed makes a big difference.
Thanks again for the tip,
Stiffy
Ok, This is the place I go when I need to know. I have the Onkyo TX-SR 707....and it seems it has always been hicky...just not enough for me to persue the endless negotiations to have Customer service warranty it!! I dont need 7.2 My house will never be big enough, I do need a very dependable...
Thanks Jacob, You answered my question, and" Dolby Digital" is activated on our box......So, Dtv advertises HD movies but they can't transmit or process "HD" audio through there equipment.....Looks like I'm still a Netflix customer, even though I have to pay for the semi USELESS instant...
Thanks for your response Cameron,
What I do know is, It appears most... if not all "regular TV" audio is broadcast in stereo (2.1) and my AVR defaults to" All channel stereo" to distribute that sound evenly in my 5.1 system. I can cycle through My "processing options" with my AVR and process...
When I watch a DvD my Onkyo TX-707 automatically decodes and displays the audio format. (Ie Dolby digital,DTS-master,etc). But when I watch a "HD" movie streamed from Dtv the receiver defaults to "all channel stereo" I read that audio information takes up almost twice as much "Digital...
Thanks Gene, Ya,It looks like I am going to have to rearrange my components to make it more convenient to power up the amp. A small price to pay for the pronounced improvement in sound. Thnx, Stiffy
Just Added a Emotiva XPA-3 To my system for the front soundstage the amp has a "trigger" wire that will allow it to power up when the AVR (Onkyo sr707) is powered on. But it seams the 12v "trigger" on the AVR only works for zone2. I can't seem to make this work even though I am only running a...
Thanks Robert, Yup, I missed The forum. I went with the 900, Got a good deal on a refurb from logitech $170 with warranty.Cheaper than any equals I have seen on e-bay. Thanks for the link to the IR blasters, I may not need them we will see. P.S. I have found I can mute my AVR and no sub "POP"...
I am on my third 880 in 4-5 years. The problem is the volume button keeps becomming less and less sensative due to the some what indirect line to my Onkyo AVR. Moving the AVR is not an option. I am considering a Harmony 890, or the 900. My DTV box is RF capable, can I enable the RF mode on the...
That was my wife's addition as she proof read my post, Demonstrating our mutual frustration over the situation! Thank you for your contribution. Shame on me, I told her how helpful people on this site have been. Stiffy
I have an LG BD-390 I am falling out of love with, For the second time in a year or so I have bought a new movie (Harry Potter Deathly hallows P1) and the software / firmware cannot decrypt this movie. I know this because this is the 3rd blu ray disk I have put in in 24hrs..They all freeze in...
My 2 cents, I recently upgraded my HT speakers. In the stores I auditioned Infinity, Polk, Jamo, Definitive Tech. These where the only speakers I had access to in this area. I then spent hours on line researching some of the Internet suggestions made here, Axiom, SVS, and other brands I didn't...
I have an LG BD390, the up converting is outstanding and has saved me some money that otherwise would have been spent upgrading at least some of my DVD collection. As far as wifi is concerned, be aware that to stream video you will need a moderately fast broadband service ( 6-7mbps and...
Robert, Got it, It all makes very good sense when you put it that way. I can .............and will use all the help I can get in a Forum format!! Thanks again all, Chris
Robert, If you don't mind I would like privately to get some clarification. I'll understand if you just don't have the time to take a rookie through his paces, but I would really like to see if you can clear up some large gray areas for me. Hit me up in a private forum if you are game. Bill...
Robert, I hope you are professionally vested in this community because you have an understanding that goes far beyond what I would ever hope is needed as a end user, that said I personally...compulsively... try to understand "why". Now to updated my D*experience so far.....Outage first night...
Wow, D* install on Monday. Nobody mentioned the picture would improve 10 fold .....WOW Big difference, this cable company must be really be over processing their signal. I like the satelite features, and the picture is the best I have ever seen!! Thanks again guys, Chris P.S. Great installer...
Dave, Why 5 LNBs? I have only seen 3 available on the D*. Does it cost more/additional $ to have more LNBs? Or is it dictated by location, package, line of sight? Again, thanks for the help, This site has proved invaluable Chris
OK, Thanks guys. It looks like I am going to Direct TV. One of the underlying themes is spending a little extra time to get your dish absolutely peaked will get you less outage and "rain wash". Question, In light of not wanting to have to re-peak my dish after some "here for an hour or two make...
I need some basic help here. I have been a cable user for many years, we have 2 DVRs and HD service. The problem after we just spent a pretty penny on upgrading our modest HT,the cable company can't seem to work out the bugs on our DVR (Scientific Atlanta HD8300) it pixelates on both recorded...
Robert, Sorry about the delay I had a pretty intense work schedule last week and could only get to the sub today. Tried a different leg (other side) of circuit breaker. I tried separately as well as together powering the sub and AVR...still pops also tried leaving sub powered, and unplugging the...
