Onkyo Unveils Top-of the-line Network Receivers

At the store they said they had 6 left in the warehouse and would sell them for $1800 and that a new model was coming out this year. They swore it was BNIB not refurbished, citing a good relationship with and mega sprawl-mart pruchsing power from Onkyo for the price. Anyone wanna call b.s. on...

    B&W CM5GB

I was thinking about getting a pair of these to use for general stereo listening, such as at the computer, and was wondering what would be a good amplifier for them. I've heard their a bit innefficient, which brings me to a couple other concerns with them. At $1500 for a pair, are you paying...

HTF / Projector People Epson Thanksgiving Contest Winner Announced!!!

WHAT! I WAS one of the top 15! Wow! I never thought I would have been chosen. I thought my only hope would have been if they saw the creativity in what I was doing because I didn't think my post was that good. Must be that is what happened. I totally forgot that I had pictures here including my...

HTF / Projector People Epson Thanksgiving Contest Winner Announced!!!

Yeah, it would be interesting to see who the top 15 were. Joe Caps entry was chosen because he was really in an accident and is very active on here. His post was far from the most creative or best written, it even had typos. It's just that he is known here. Sorry that might sound horrible but I...

HTF Contest: Win an Epson HC 8700 1080P projector courtesy of Epson and ProjectorPeople.com!

My home theater, I can assure you, is like no other. See, it's not actually a home theater, it's a barn theater! It all started a few years ago when someone gave me an old projection TV that wasn't quite good enough to put in the house, so I put it in the barn and threw a couple couches in front...

Sharp XG-H440U LCD projector with 480x234 resolution; 2 to 1 aspect ratio and 300-400 lumens? XG-H40

Projector Central has no entry on my exact projector. But they have an entry on the similar but worse as far as I can tell XG-H400U; I am going by that it has lower power consumption for a same age projector. http://www.projectorcentral.com/Sharp-XG-H400U.htm It has a 100:1 contrast ratio and...

Here is the picture bigger; http://cdn.huddler.com/6/63/63f0d48d_barn theater screen.jpg Somebody once asked me; "is this really in a barn?" It sure is. It sure is.

Screen gain of every day items like white paint; construction paper, and a sheet.

I have used an old classroom style 6x6 foot Da Lite model B and extended the sides with none other than white construction paper. It works pretty seemlessly. There seems to be minimal difference in gain. And the gain seems to be fairly average. My projector is pretty old and dim (Sharp XG-H440U-...

What was the FIRST 5.1 system; was it Dolby Digital? (Batman Returns from summer 1992 was first to u

Thanks, yes that was the first digital 5.1 but I did some research and analog magnetic 5.1 has been around since the 50s and 70s. The 50s version used 5 fronts and one surround and no LFE, but the Dolby stereo 70mm six track used the configuration we know.

How important is the center channel?

Thanks yes I know it's certainly not a bad thing to have these things match. Do you suppose that thenceforth 5 completely unrelated super high end cost no issue audio speakers would possible sound worse than five moderately priced matched speakers? And with the center channel/dialogue; just...

How important is the center channel?

Why does the center speaker itself need to "timbre match" the front drivers so well. They don't share the vocals, in which case of course they would certainly. Most of the time the vocal content is damn near 100% in the center channel while the left and right have none. Why is it SOOOO important...

"The Center Channel Speaker will play EIGHT PERCENT (8 %) of the sound that is played......"

Yes maybe it is a typo becuase right after finding and posting this I did some searching and found a post in Klipsch forum stating that the center channel is responsicble for as much as eighty percent of the soundtrack at times. And now specifically searching "surround channel 80 percent" I see...

"The Center Channel Speaker will play EIGHT PERCENT (8 %) of the sound that is played......"

This website states: Two of the speakers go on each side of your television while one speaker, designated the center channel goes in front of the television as that speaker will play eight percent of the sound that is played...

Acoustically, how well is the outdoors?

How well are the outdoors for sound? I was thinking about it since it's becoming summertime. Also, what if there were three large buildings making three walls but an open back area and no ceiling; the sky. Since reflections always seem to be a problem and everyone is damening everything...

Setting up surround arrays like a commercial theater; multiple speakers per channel

Okay the URL worked, I also have added a lot to the 10.2 article. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/10.2 On Tomlinson Holman's 12 or 14 channel (now 13 channels, 11.2 is what they're going for now is what I've heard from Chris Kryakakis) surround system.

Check out some of these articles to see what you think

I got brave and wrote a few risky articles on Wikipedia. I'm not sure if I can post URL's because I am new here but it's Wikipedia so a google search of the titles should bring them right up. I wrote center channel a long time ago-just google it; I think it's the number one result, as well as...

Setting up surround arrays like a commercial theater; multiple speakers per channel

Yeah, I know home cinema is usually intended to outperform commercial cinema, except in projector quality>where you don't even come close! (arguments pursue).

Setting up surround arrays like a commercial theater; multiple speakers per channel

How did you join in December 1969 lol. Moderator. Okay yeah I wasn't sure what size it would take before it was a good idea. It's like 18 feet by 12 feet with a tall ceiling. Speaking of theater, how do they, with any amount of equipment, get the sound to be fairly good over the entire listening...

Setting up surround arrays like a commercial theater; multiple speakers per channel

Okay well it's not commercial theater size, but it has two rows of couches and is a fairly large area. How do all cinemas pull it off acceptably. Don't tell me they time each one a little off so they are all in sync. Besides this would only work to create a focused sweet spot and would make the...

Setting up surround arrays like a commercial theater; multiple speakers per channel

Ever notice how home surround units, even the big monster and flagship ones, are only made for exaclty one speaker per channel; never more? Also ever notice how all theaters use a plethora of speakers for the surround channels? This can't just be because they have a large audience to cover and...
