Thanks for the information. I have read that there has been quite a bit of internet chatter about the reliability of Onkyo receivers the last couple of years. My brother-in-law has also been shopping for a receiver for their home, and has heard the same from salespeople at a local a/v store. Any...
It has been a long time since I shopped for home audio equipment. I have had a Harman/Kardon AVR 230 since 2004, and it has been a fine receiver. I currently have a 5.1 speaker setup, with Polk speakers for everything but the sub, which is made by SVS. I use a PS3 for my blu-ray player and...
Hello All, My mom is very hard of hearing, and I will often invite her over to watch movies on the 50" plasma that I bought earlier this year. I have a PS3 as my blu-ray player, and it is hooked up to my Harman Kardon AVR 230 receiver with an optical cable. She has a hard time hearing a lot of...
Thanks for the advice everyone! The DLP certainly has good reviews, and I have not checked out RP since last year when I was looking at the Sony SXRD sets. I am really torn here, as Sears has the extra 10% you can take off the price, so that would bring the 720p down to almost $800. Then I...
I would like to get a 50" tv, and have decided that plasma is the better choice as far as picture quality, though I have seen some very nice LCD's out there! I have thought seriously of the Panasonic TH-50PZ800U, but don't like the idea of spending almost $2000 for a TV. I bought a 34" Sony...
My local Sears has a floor model 60" KDS A3000 rear projection TV for $1099 as a clearance price. If I recall correctly, this was a well thought of TV. I have been waiting to purchase a 50" Panasonic plasma this fall or holiday season, but thought for $1099 that it might be a good deal...
I do watch some TV during the day, and there is a large picture window directly opposite of where my TV goes. Unfortunately, the way the room is laid out, it is pretty much the only configuration available. I have a Sony 34" HD CRT TV that has a good picture, but I get glare on it, and if I am...
Patrick, I was at CC last night, and I looked at the 50PZ77u, and the picture was awesome! They have course had high def content playing on it and it was a beautiful picture. The PZ700U they had mounted higher on a wall, and it was playing a football game....so I couldn't compare apples to...
Thanks for the info, Patrick. I don't think I saw the 77U at the store, so will have to go back and check it out. The more I research this, the more confused I get. Steve
If I read my Sears ad in today's paper correctly, they are going to have this 50" Panasonic plasma on sale on Saturday for $2399, and if you use your Sears card, you can get a 10% rebate, or no interest till January of 2010. Consumer Reports rated this TV very highly, and I have looked at it in...
I will answer my own question...I just read the AVS thread on this, and someone there said he tried a new browser without cookies, and started a new account to get the deal....he had the Amazon Prime (which I am on the trial period for)....and so I setup a new account with a different browser...
Sorry, I don't mean to double post, but this thread is specifically about the A3, and I just posted in the thread about the A2, but I just tried buying this deal at Amazon, and got all the way to the last step before charging it to my card, and it was still totalling $219....it wasn't giving...
I am trying to do this Amazon deal, and I went to the page with the offer, and I click on the box next to the A3, then I pick three movies, and hit add to cart. I go all the way to the last stage before I place the order, and it doesn't give me the discount on the movies, instead, my total for...
Thanks Aaron, I will check out that TV. Andrew, I sent you a PM, but for anyone else, I found it at vanns.com though they don't have the 60" in stock right now. With no sales tax and free shipping, it seems to be a good deal.
I am looking to get a larger TV to replace my Sony 34" CRT HD tv. I am thinking 55" - 60", and my budget is around $2000 or less. I would like 1080p, for playing my Xbox 360, and would like to get either an HD DVD or Blu-Ray DVD player sometime in the future. I was on the verge of buying the...
Thanks Ferdinand, I listened again, and the English 2.0 and French soundtrack sound very similar. I would say that the "whoosh" in that scene is virtually absent on both, and when you listen to the 5.1 it is shocking how much difference there is. I'm glad my order was delayed now. Steve
Thanks Andrew. I listened to that scene, and the 5.1 version definitely sounds "whooshier", louder, more vivid, definitely 5.1. The French and English soundtrack sound anemic in comparison. So does this mean I have both corrected discs? If so, that would explain the delay in getting the set from...
I ordered this set from DDD a while ago, and it was on backorder for several weeks. I just received the set a couple of days ago, and would just like to confirm that I have the corrected Superman 3 disc. It seems that the S1 disc may also be the corrected version as well. The S3 disc I have...
Thanks Alon, that was kind of what I was thinking.....I just didn't want to short-change myself, or charge too much. I want to sell the speakers and a Pioneer receiver at the same time if possible. Thanks again! Steve
I hope I am not breaking any forum rules, but I need a bit of help. I have an Onkyo SKS-HT500 5.1 speaker system that I would like to sell. I searched ebay for current and completed auctions, with no success. It is in very good to excellent condition. Is there a resource on the net someone could...
Does anyone have any thoughts on the "exclusive" editions available at Best Buy and Target for the 2 disc Special Edition? Target's version has a couple of old 40's Superman radio shows, and Best Buy has some kind of comic book. I am curious about the comic book, if it is just a comic of the...
Has anyone bought either one of these sets yet? I was wondering if the "unrated" version has enough "unratedness" to warrant the extra cost. I also wonder if the CC exclusive, unaired pilot is in fact the original short that was available online a couple of years ago? Or if it is truly a 30...
Travis S, thanks for the info. I knew there was a reason I should have bought WOTW at BB. I ended up getting it at Circuit City right across the street, with no extras... :frowning:
The film establishes that the war machines, or tripods, were buried a long time ago (this is Spielberg's nod to 9/11, and the idea of "sleeper cells" or terrorists hiding in our own backyard). The alien pilots were then transported via the lightning storm to them. The operators of the craft came...
The video transfer seems excellent to me. This is exactly how it looked in theaters. I am not sure what you call the "style", but Spielberg has used this kind of washed out picture a bit too much in my opinion.
After watching the first 30 minutes, all I can say is "Holy Crap!" The DTS soundtrack rocks, I felt like I was in the midst of an earthquake! I believe this was a better audio experience than I had at the theater this summer!
Thank you for checking that Todd! Kennewick is a couple of hours from me. I just called the local BB, and they said they sometimes will transfer merchandise between stores, then when I asked about the Panasonic specifically, he said because it was a closeout item, and was likely being sold at...
I am in the market for a DVD recorder, but don't want to spend more than $200. I read that the Panasonic ES10S is a good model, but I don't think my local Best Buy has anymore in stock. What DVD Recorder would be a best buy under $200? Thanks!
