Why are some LCD TVs 16:10??

Thanks, guys. If the pixels are not square, then everything's OK. I was concerned because someone on another forum gave the TV a bad review because the picture was slightly distorted from having a 16:10 ratio. And googling "LN22A450 16:10" yields numerous hits. My folks understand the...

Why are some LCD TVs 16:10??

So I'm looking at the Samsung LN22A450, and I notice the aspect ratio is 16:10. Why is that? I know computer monitors often have that ratio, but why an HDTV? My parents would be getting this TV, and I don't want them to be confused as to why high def content still has black bars.

    Please recommend a 52" LCD

Wow, the Sammy gets a lot of praise here. Amazon.com has it on sale right now. The sheer number of 52"ers out there with 1080p 120hz is mind boggling. Sony's OK. They have the XBR model and the W series. Easy Enough. Then Toshiba's got three, and I don't know what the difference is...

    Please recommend a 52" LCD

Hi all, I have a budget around $2000 and I'm looking for the best 52" LCD in this class. That's just a rough price point, because I know some of the major brands have models on sale around $2200 or so. Anyways, we're looking for 1080p, 120HZ. On the 120HZ, I know its value is debatable, so...

Please recommend an inexpensive component switcher

Somone on another forum said he used the one I linked about and had positive results -- and wasn't using it currently, so I'm gonna take it used from him. If i don't report back here in a week or so, PM me to remind me to tell you about it.

Please recommend an inexpensive component switcher

Hello, A friend is in the market for a device that can switch component video. The content will be high def 1080i stuff. Right now this seems to be the leading contender: Amazon.com: Online Shopping for Electronics, Apparel, Computers, Books, DVDs & more If anyone knows of a better...

    Vote for my old school?

Thanks, folks. Actually watching the video is going above and beyond the call of duty. Although you will see playground items that I myself climbed on, or fell off of, lo those many years ago!

Need advice: cell phone hands-free device (I'm clueless)

Fair enough. Cell phone kind of combines the radio and conversation thing, so I could see how it's worse than either of the two. Maybe. I may not even get one before tomorrow's trip. But I am also interested in getting a handsfree device for everyday use. I live in a city and often do...

Need advice: cell phone hands-free device (I'm clueless)

I have never done an ounce of research into anything that will let me talk on a cell phone hands free. I know absolutely nothing about them. I'm going on a solo car trip tomorrow and thought it might be nice to have one. So what's the deal? Is it all bluetooth, or are there still ones with...

What's your favorite Hamburger Helper flavour?

I was about to lament the loss of the Cheesy Nacho flavor, but the website (General Mills: Hamburger Helper) still lists it as a current flavor! I have looked at multiple stores in multiple states, and haven't seen this in at least five years. Is it some kind of conspiracy?? Barring that...

Resolution for smaller LCD sets -- 1080p coming?

Ok, fair enough. But since 1080p seems to becoming the standard these days, do you think they'll start making small sets 1080p as well just for uniformity's sake?

Resolution for smaller LCD sets -- 1080p coming?

Hello, It seems all you see on smaller LCD sets is 720p (or 768 lines or whatever), but the trend for larger TVs now seems to be 1080p. Will eventually everything be 1080p, or will smaller sets continue to be 720p? I don't want to buy one and then six months later find out I could have had...

    Help on HD audio connections

    Help on HD audio connections

So through basic research, it seems like stereo receivers that can decode DTS-Master Audio and Dolby TrueHD are still kinda new and expensive. On the Dolby page here: http://www.dolby.com/consumer/techno...HD_avrs_2.html It says : If your A/V receiver is equipped with 5.1 or 7.1 external...

Forgive me if this is a dumb question (especially from a six-year member of this forum): Is my understanding correct that HD-DVDs are dual sided, with one side containing a standard DVD version? I ask because I'd like to get the five disc set, but not the expensive briefcase version with all...

Anyone know anything about web conferencing?

Thanks for the responses --I appreciate the effort. I guess the technical term for what I'm looking for is more web casting than conferencing, but who would have thought it would be so hard to do it? It's the 21st century for crying out loud! One thing I hadn't considered was bandwitdth --...

Ok, I've moved the file locations to a more reliable host: http://home.gwu.edu/~kluss/PDVD_000.BMP That's from Lawrence of Arabia. You can most notice the "invisible border" at the top, near the left by the ceiling fan. http://home.gwu.edu/~kluss/PDVD_001.BMP This is the Warner...

Help: PC display has invisible border around anamorphic movies

Thanks for the reply, Keith, but I don't think that's what's happening here. It's mostly occuring on movies with a 2.35:1 aspect ratio. These movies normally have thin black borders at the top and bottom even in widescreen displays, as you know. My problem is occuring where these black...

Help: PC display has invisible border around anamorphic movies

Hi All, Just got a new PC from Dell and I've noticed a strange occurrence during DVD playback on my LCD monitor. Material that is 4:3 or 16:9 plays superbly. However, when I play 2.35:1 anamorphic movies, i get a very thin (maybe a few pixels) border around the entire movie. I find this...

They should have cut right before he went into the closet, then inserted his alleyway change from the beginning of Lester's 2 -- we don't get any Clark-to-Superman changes in the new Donner Cut.
