    Glad I have AppleCare+

My iPad went face down onto the bathroom tile. Oof.

Well that's a bit of an upgrade

Mac Studio arrived today. The difference in the Geekbench GPU benchmark compared to my Mac mini is almost comical. (I did have an RX580 eGPU for the mini but found that to be a pretty clunky solution)

Donald Glover rumored to be returning as Lando Calrissian for new Disney+ series

Seems to be a lot of buzz about this today. There had been speculation in the past of a Solo/Lando series but this looks like it would just be Lando. https://www.radiotimes.com/news/on-demand/2020-07-22/lando-calrission-series-donald-glover-disney-plus/ Good idea, IMO. More story potential...

    Good Omens (Amazon Prime)

Anyone watching? We're 5 episodes in, my wife was too tired to watch the final one tonight. I think it's a pretty decent adaptation overall. (and I only recently read the book, so it's pretty fresh in my mind). David Tennant is great as the demon Crowley, as is Michael Sheen as his frenemy, the...

Survivor : One World (season 24)

"Troyzan's balls haven't moved in a while!" Not sure how Probst or the players kept a straight face during that challenge.

    Expedition Impossible

Anybody else watch this? It's a pretty shameless ripoff of The Amazing Race, in almost every way. I expected a little more originality. Still, it's something to watch. I'm rooting for the No Limiits team (with the blind guy).

    New Samsung plasma owner

I bit the bullet on a Samsung PN58B550 today. My previous TV (Tosh CRT RPTV) is getting long in the tooth, and although it has served me well it was time to upgrade. The Tosh will retire to the basement where it will live out its days. :) I went Plasma based on everything I've been reading here...

Bryan Singer to direct and produce 'Battlestar Galactica' movie

I couldn't find a thread about this. Interesting news that should cause a bit of a ruckus. Battlestar Galactica is getting the big-screen treatment. Universal Pictures has confirmed blog speculation that Bryan Singer, director of Valkyrie, w.ill take on directing and producing duties for a BSG...

Stephen King's Nightmares & Dreamscapes -TNT

Is anybody else watching this? The first one with William Hurt & the toy army men was pretty good. I'm getting somewhat of a "Creepshow" vibe out of it.

    HTPC idea

I am toying with this idea for building an HTPC. I want to take a PC and put it away in a cabinet where it will be silent and hidden. From this PC, I want to run a USB2 cable through a wall to a remote unit in my HT rack which I will build out of an old gutted DVD player shell. Inside this...

There I was, all set to buy the Toshiba 57H83..

But Fry's had the 65H83 on sale for $200 LESS than the 57H83, with the sale ending today. I got it for $1799 + tax & shipping, delivered it's just a few bucks over $2000. I had just about convinced myself that we didn't really have room for a 65", but at that price I'll make it fit...

    EBS Shiva Sonosub complete

My long sub-less nightmare is over! For the past couple of years, going back to when the Shiva was new and the first sonosubs were being discussed in this forum, I've been planning on building one of these things. In fact, I bought the 12' of 16" tube and it's been sitting in my garage, waiting...

    Built a flexy rack

As a prelude to building a sonosub, I decided to get some MDF-working practice in by building a flexy rack. I wanted it to be a little creative with the paint - I covered the shelves with Rustoleum "Stone Creations" pebble textured paint and a few coats of their "Clear Matte" spray finish. I...

    Tempest in a 16" Sonotube?

Has anyone built such a beast, or should I stick with a Shiva? I already have the tube, I bought it a while ago (over a year) when I initially got the bug to build a sub. Lack of funds intervened but I'm going to build it very soon now. Height isn't much of an object, but I'd like to keep...

    Toshiba 57H82 available?

I saw this set listed on OneCall as being available now, and it's one of the ones I'm interested in. Anybody know if it's really out or have any experience with it?
